Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

Yes, I mean lenses with an aperture ring.

Yes, manual focus with an aperture ring. Even an ordinary lens, in terms of optical performance, is usually sharp in the center area. When used on a m4/3 body, the image is almost always uniformly sharp from edge to edge. The down side of course, is that focal distance doubles when a FF lens is used on a m4/3 body -- 35mm effectively becomes 70mm, etc.

yes, a major advantage for telephoto stuff....wide angle requires a focal reducer.

Ditto what sqrrl posted. The GH4 is currently the best value going in a small, mirrorless design that delivers exemplary 4K, excellent stills and nails focus virtually 100% of the time. It's the backup for my K1. I use it with an Olympus 9-18 (18-36 FF equiv.) and often use some of my legacy Pentax glass with a K to m4/3 adapter. I find myself frequently leaving the K1 at home.
Which adapter?

I'm wondering whether to get an adapter (I need the ones that let me adjust aperture) to use my 50mm Pentax, or to get a cheap 50mm C mount lens with adapter. The price of these adapters is rather high, and I doubt I'll use any of my other Pentax lenses. I might not even invest in Pentax anymore, because, well, I doubt I'll buy another Pentax, and the range of my Pentax lenses is covered by Panasonic glass already.

If you need something more affordable and more compact than a GH4, consider the GX80/85. They are small, cheap, and have excellent video. Including in body stabilization. It's brilliant.

I personally have a cheap 'dumb' adapter - it's basically just an extension tube with a male m43 on the back and a female K on the front. Then I have a 50mm 1.7 M, a 100mm f4 M series macro, a couple of adaptalls for 28mm & 300mm - I do have an 18-35, some m42's and a few other lenses with apertures but honestly for wider stuff I generally use native m43 lenses for wider stuff.

My most used would be a 14-42 (cheapie kit), 20mm 1.7, (both m43) and the two M series lenses. The others I use very rarely.

Those two M-series lenses both do nice stuff on m43, especially in video. I don't have an extensive kit just for the sake of it. - those four lenses would do 99% of what I use m43 for.

For C-mount I really like my 25mm 1.7 for swirly focus, and my 50 1.4 for sharp edge to edge, but I find both to be a real prick to focus quickly, so I don't use them much unless I'm just playing.

What's the best available option for 4k video in mirrorless cameras to utilize Pentax legacy lenses?
Sony's FS7, FS5.
BMD's EF mounted BMPC4K, and the Ursa Mini Pro.
Panasonic's EVA1 should be good.
And my favorite,the Aja Cion.

What,.. Yes, they're all 'mirrorless',....

As for MILC bodies,... the A7s, GH4, G85, GH5 are all good, especially when paired with external recorder.
The G85 is my 'most likely', as I don't need the higher datarates of the GH4 or GH5, as I own a Shogun.

And yes, I've had SMC lenses in front of most of those cameras, IMHO they are the equal of some 'more respected' brands lenses, though the brand cache of the others tends to hurt the Pentax lenses reputation.

The only place where the Pentax lenses are clearly behind, is in Focus Breathing during Focus Pulls,... and the easy way to hide that, is shoot Anamorphic.

Metabones don't support K-mount,... annoying, as they do a C/Y Speedbooster, which has Identical FFD.
Mitakon and Kipon do some models for Pentax lenses,... reviews seem to suggest the Metabones products are slightly superior.

SMC @ 4K samples,... on the Aja Cion

Shot 01 & 02 - Sigma 70-300 DG
Shot 03 - 35 F2
Shot 04 - 35 F2

Shot 06 - 35 F2
Shot 07 - 50 F1.7

Fire Twirling is on the 70-300 DG

Sunset - Also the 50, I think.

Use EF ring on a K mount, difficult to remove.

All lenses work, some better than others...depend what you got and how serious the video making is?

Finding a decent EF ring is the hard part, they're notoriously shoddy and leave the lens able to rotate just enough to ruin a good focus pull.

Never be too serious, it causes headaches

As for the collection,... K/KM/KA in 24, 35, 50 (x3) 85, 100, 135, 200 for the primes.
I think I'm around 17 lenses for K-mount now

I recently used my M100/2.8 on a GX1 and it almost worked great. I slightly missed focus - but a 4k camera would have focus peaking to correct my error.

How about an alternate answer?... iPhone X and a roll of gaffer tape.

iPhone wouldn't focus through a roll of gaffer tape.

Every single day - Sony a6500 with Pentax APS-C glass.

Winning combination...I shoot TONS with this combination!

Lots of Pentax glass here - DA 16-50 and DFA 100mm Macro

Yep, I'd love to have a Pentax body option to natively use lenses on, given A6500 performance.

How do you find the IBIS on the A6500 during video. Assume it works with the legacy lenses.

Because the DA* 16-50 is optically excellent - and with the SDM problems nullified because you use an adapter on the A6500 - you get a F/2.8 APS-C lens with manual quick shift.

Quick shift works AWESOME with a follow focus because you can set the follow focus to max and min focus, and it doesn't matter how the focus gear is on the camera.

The IBIS works just fine...but for the most part my cameras are on sliders or tripods with the occasional hand held.

To be honest...the DA* 16-50 is the perfect lens to adapt to the A6500 - and because of the SDM problems you can get them cheap.

Think about that when looking for a F/2.8 lens for the Sony.
It's one of the best kept secrets out there.

Here are two shots from different shoots

Of course this is why I wish we had a Pentax solution (1080p/60p with 50+mBits) to video. I love my Sony cameras, but it would be sooooooooo much easier to just have Pentax native solutions.

Cool! Lol that’s my want too, 60fps 1080p at 50+mBits. 2.7k if it’s an option for stabilisation and cropping options at a 1080p output. And IBIS that works...

And I want to use all the other bits I love about the Pentax, handling, weather sealing/rugged, 2nd nature buttons, native mount etc.

Just to clarify, is that adapter giving you autofocus with that Pentax lens?
