I gave up on camera audio completely (and I have a Rode Pro mic that fits in the hot shoe as well) and bought this:

Tascam DR-10L Micro Portable Audio Recorder with Lavalier DR-10L

I simultaneously record audio on camera and with the Tascam and then merge the audio in Hitfilm. Works a treat.

Both versions of the DR-60D, and the DR-70D, are all excellent recorders, with the DR-701D being the next step beyond for four channel recorders.
I'd also recommend the DR-60DII, I got it as a step-up from the DR-40 series handheld recorder with mics built in. The only fault of the DR-60D and Tascams generally is that they eat up batteries, so I'd recommend an external batter pack to power it via usb. But other than that, it's more than enough recorder for my needs!

I love mine. It's done all the audio on my channel since August, except for the ambient sounds and music. And I just replaced the battery this week. My only criticism and it's a nit pick is the on/off record button is fiddly. That or my fingers are just fat! Without a bit of a nail, I couldn't use it.

Turn off Phantom Power for the Mic's, and the Tascams stop eating batteries

I usually have my DR-70D running off the USB port on the side of my AJA Cion, but back when I was using the K-01 as my main camera for short films and music videos, I had the DR-70D under the K-01 on the tripod, and fitted an AA in to the Rode NTG-2, rather then use Phantom Power.

It limits the Rode's output by about a 1dB, but did mean the Tascam didn't need fresh batteries every 25 minutes.
