Wooooot,... 4K !!!

Progress report on PENTAX's new APS-C-format digital SLR flagship camera?RICOH IMAGING

Right there in the specifications.

It's looooong overdue, now if it can output cleanfeed too, I'd update.

I'm also watching this development closely. Good video (and that touch screen, very helpful in video) in my Pentax gear is the missing link. If this has been implemented properly, then this could serve me in my job.

And what form of image stabilization be used? I missed it in the specs or it's not there.

If it goes back to mechanical stabilization like the K-5 that'd be great. I've been getting some good use out of my K-5 for video lately, some of the nicest 1080p you can get at today's used prices, and the SR doesn't work miracles but it really does help. Between the compression and digital SR I wouldn't want to shoot video on any of the later models.

I was curious about his 4K feature so that's why I ended up here ... and I think I've missed some recent news about the "new" APS-C flagship.

When I clicked on the link provided by the OP, I could read : "officially named PENTAX K-3 Mark III" ... really?
Is this a real and official Ricoh announcement?
Besides this, is there also an "official thread" right here on PF about this new K3 Mark III ?

Thanks for the link.

Edit: Found the thread ..

I wonder if it is cropped 4K or the full sensor output.

But .... Pentax don't have video as a priority.
4K is probably the minimum they can get away with.
Good AF during video and mechanical stabilisation may well be possible with the technology under the covers but I see nothing in the specs.
I wish and hope that I'm wrong ... time will tell

I am afraid these specs do not answer my question. 4K video can come from the full sensor downsized, or from a crop of the sensor as it is done in many cameras. In the latter case, the quality is much lower compared to the full sensor downsized to 4K.

Pentax said last year, 4k video was a mater of finding an appropriate sensor. So no surprise here, at least for people who pay attention.

Why?? Why not h.265 10bit?? Why not to make a gamma curve like everybody else?? they are 4 years late and not giving even a solid gamma curve, just a ¨flat¨ profile.

Im out...ill keep my K3 for timelapses, but Im selling the rest of the gear and getting a Xt4.
