Bitrates for video - specific to camera models?

Hello. Seems there are various questions around bitrates for various Pentax DSLRs, but not a lot of definitive answers. Wondering if people would like to help settle some of these questions?

On a Mac, if you run a clip in Quicktime Player, hit Command+I this will bring up a data window. Expand the area called 'video details' and it will give you the bitrate of your recorded video. Not sure the easiest way to do this on a PC.

To get things started, I get a bitrate of 23.06 mbit/sec on a K-1 ii recording full quality 1080p at 29.97 fps. I believe the.h264 codec tops out at 24 mbit/sec for 1080p30.

On a K-30/K-50 I get 17 mbit/sec at full quality 1080 at 29.97 fps.

Curious what the K-70 and KP can do. Closer to K-50 or K-1 ii?

Apologies if all this has been researched and answered elsewhere. I couldn't find it. Thanks!

I don't have a K-70 or a KP but I can report that I get more or less the same bitrate reported for K-1 video files or 23.89 mbit/sec (it varies a bit from file to file). Interestingly, the K-01 seems to have almost exactly the same bitrate for video files, so not much progress if any between those two models. Since the K-01 was released almost 9 years ago that is not good for the K-1. The audio is better on the K-1 though, so that part of the system was clearly upgraded. Both have much higher bitrates than the Q series, where the bitrate is around 13.30 on my Q-10 and Q-S1.

Everything post K-5 except the KP has the same bitrate, it's about 19mbits. The KP got 24mBits. K-1 was after KP? would be logical to guess it having the higher data rate.

The K3iii needs to be capable of 100mBits MINIMUM if the 4K is going to be remotely useful.

No...KP (2017) and K-70 (2016) were both after K-1 (2016).

Going by Albert Seigel's videos, the KP was the first to get 24mBits.

It wouldn't surprise if the K-1 got it in a firmware update.

If so and if possible, it is something that both Ricoh and users have been silent about.

I get 23.89 mb/sec from the KP - same as K-1 ii.

TBH, most users wouldn't notice most of the time. Where it is noticeable on the KP, was shooting at night at 1600 and 3200 ISO, where the HD footage became 'usable' compared to the mess of colour blotching that earlier models get with the 19mbits limit.

Daytime or properly lit environments, most Pentax footage is at 100 or 200 ISO, and no higher then 800 indoors at night in my experience, thanks to all the primes being adequately fast, the zooms might need more light.
