False.

Both, K-7 and K-x, are the same. In aperture ring A-setting, aperture can be set before recording but cannot changed anymore within. In aperture ring manual setting, aperture can be changed throughout the recording (by turning the aperture ring).

I know because I tested it.
Yes I just tried it on the K-7 and it's true - if the lens is set to A you can't change the aperture while recording, if you manually switch aperture while recording it takes the camera a slight bit to readjust the shutter speed or ISO but it does correct itself unless AE-L is on

That MkII firmware upgrade is a big deal......

1080p would be AMAZING. I would buy a k-7 right now if possible. It is the one determining factor holding me back.

Heck, 24p at 1080p would be FINE considering most 1080p work is at a cinematic frame rate....how bout 60p too?

So it does work? Which lens is this with? a Pentax-A/F/FA? or Pentax-M? Of course the older lenses which stop down by themselves will work. Does this mean DA lenses without an aperture ring are at a disadvantage?

Exactly.
But fortunately, lenses with aperture ring exist for Pentax.

FYI, the video recording stops if you switch between the A and a manual aperture position. But it works if you switch from on manual position to another, readjusting exposure within about 1s. Like Richard said.

It is asking to much? look at canon sales...they are selling a lot of DSLR for videographers... don't loose that market, you have potential... you have SR and others not...

I am very close to buying a K-x but now with the K-7 at $1000ish I am thinking about going k-7.

Do you guys think pentax will ever give us 24p with the k-7, or should I not hold my breath?

One should think that it can easily be done. But Canon kept reporting that it is very challenging to do for the 5DmkII and haven't done it so far. So my bet is 85% for not getting it.

On the other side, I think 24p is overhyped. On all modern HDTV actually, 30p playback is better than 24p, even in 50Hz territory.

Falk- Canon has officially announced that their new firmware will allow 24 and 25p recording.

I really just want 1080p and 60fps @720p....I don't think the hardware will allow it, but I'm hoping a firmware update shows us otherwise!

+1 on manual control. The hardware is all there, it's just about tweaking the firmware at this point. Does anybody know if there are any firmware hacks going around yet?

Theres a guy on here called tr13 who has a website for hacking the pentax firmware, so far he's had some successes however he has indicated he isn't interested in anything to do with the video mode.

Yeah canons newest firmware now has 24p for the 5D. I would love to have this. I love shooting in 24p, just like the look it gives. In reality it probably makes little to no difference for that film look, I just have it stuck in my head that it does. lol

I was going to ask this same question. I would love to see some crazy firmware hacks on this to really unleash this beast!
