K-7 Video problem

Hi, When I play back the video in windows media on my desktop the video is choppy, I have all the codecs installs (I think I do), and I have a pretty good graphics card with HDMI out to my monitor. How do i get rid of the choppiness and have the video playback smoothly?

Hi noquarter,

the 720p MJPEG high bitrate codec used by the K-7 is great for post processing.

However, it is not appropriate for playback (except on very powerful computers) and long time archival (except on large disk arrays).

If you are done with post processing (e.g., right after copying to disk ), recode and play back the recoded video.

I recommend using "MPEG streamclip" for this task and H.264 (MP4/AVC) as storage format.

first, don't clutter your operating system up with codec install packages that give you a bunch of things that you don't need.

second, never ever delete the original footage that you shot, even when it's m-jpeg... re-encoding the k-7 original footage to anything other than a semi-lossless type of intermediate codec like cineform or apple prores will lower the picture quality... hard drives are dirt cheap these days.

noquarter, you need to fix the problem with the player situation... what kind of cpu is in the computer? directx 9 has an m-jpeg encoder that gets installed with it.

thanks for answering, my computer is plenty fast its a quad-core with 6gb of memory and i also have lots of storage space with 400gb+ on my pictures drive. I have all the proper codecs installed(so i think) i have the .mkv codec which I watch lots of HD movies with.

Should I just import the movie file directly to Adobe Premier, edit it then play it back?

Not sure if it's because mine's a Mac not a PC, but K7 video plays back fine in Quicktime on my Mac Mini without reencoding it. It's a CoreDuo2 2.0GHz processor with 4GB of RAM.

I use the new Quicktime X on my Mac to view my K-7 videos on a 47" 1080p monitor.
