Ok, I've really started getting into Time Lapse shooting and processing... I LOVE THIS STUFF!
I'll kick things off with my second attempt which things went much better (remembered to set white balance manually!)

This outing of time lapse shots for another whopping 17 seconds of footage.
I went out and took 400 shots @ 5 second intervals, only 33 minutes of shooting. Next time I'm going to leave it out for a few hours.

Would definitely love to join this club! I love making time lapses/ stop motion. I made this video on my last night during a trip to Bolivia. I was out in the middle of Altiplano, the dry highlands of the Andes. Here the sky was unbelievably clear and so I took hundreds of astro photos. On the last day, I finally realized that my k-r has a built in timelapse function! So I left it out all night on a really dinky tabletop tripod and under a plastic wrap as protection! 30s exposures at 5min intervals.

Welcome to the club! Looks like you had some nice sky to work with! I haven't tried sun up/sun down or moon up/moon down shooting yet.. Moon shots would probably go off ok, but sun up/down shooting really messes with white balance.

Here's one from the other night.. 812 images @ ISO 320 - f3.5 - 8 seconds each shot with 20 second intervals near the end the full moon was shining bright, but it was a few hours away from being in the frame.

on a k-x there is a timelapse function?

EDIT: Just checked into it.. WOW no Interval shooting on the K-x?? I must say I'm surprised!

At any rate, it can also be done using the (free) PK_Tether program & a laptop.. or an actual intervalometer.

There has been time lapse functions on the Optio line of point and shoots for years, I would have imagined it should have been on the K-x! I shoot mine with 6MP jpegs as anything over 4 MP is well over HD video resolution.. then I use VirtualDub to compile it to an AVI file and resize the image (ususally 1920x1080).

Well I just compiled my good two with one I shot today (short 186 shots 10 sec apart). Learning how to put them all together and crossfade, I can throw music to it later when I pick the right tune.

A first attempt with a K-5, smc 24 f2.8. OVer 3,500 images taken at 4-6 shots / minute and disaplyed at 24 fps. Not totally happy with the way Priemer Elements affected the final quality.. Comments are appreciated.

nice capture, you could redo it with VirtualDub or LR-Timelapse (free beta DL I'm messing with right now). You could probably get rid of those ugly interlacing scan line artifacts.

So here's a quick shot of what some great software can overcome.. my first outing I forgot to set white balance and it messed my shooting.. so I opened all of my frames in CameraRAW and then selected all, hit Auto White Balance and Auto Exposure, saved them and hopped into LR-TimeLapse and selected them all in there and maxed the de-flickering, then saved.. repeated the deflickering and saving a few times over and then went back into CameraRAW.. changed some of the lens characteristics and angles etc.. then cropped it and THEN went into VirtualDub.. After VirtualDub I find running the file through Handbrake to re-encode it to an MKV can help save some HD space my 6.5GB (uncompressed format) compiled file cranked down to 184MB.. shows how much compression can be done in video!

Chex, Awesome editing with LR Timelapse! Have you tried using any pan or zoom with it yet? I was seriously considering getting a motorized tracking telescope mount just to do those but if free software is good enough for now I'll save up for lenses =)

I haven't figured it out yet... but damnit I've tried, the crop settings just aren't sticking when I got back into CameraRAW

Pentax K5 rules... What's neat here is the use of the FGZ-360 flash set at 1/32 intensity with a 30 sec exposure. It both lights up the statue and still permits the stars to shine thru' Best of all the FGZ360 (with eneloops) delivered over 900 flashes for the entire time lapse...

Nicely done! The skies here finally cleared up again, so I think I'm going to try and head out tonight and shoot again. What lens was that shot with? It looks to me to be in the 20-30mm range? Also, if you use CameraRAW for any editing, I find it very handy to be able to open all the frames shot at once, select them all have all your tweaking done to all of them at once.

I'm tempted to try doing some flashwork like this as well, just I don't have eneloop batteries for it so I'm a little worried about their "lasting power" But I guess there's only one way to really find out!
