Cool video monitor with Audio monitor out!

Saw this the other day.

CLM-V55 | Portable Monitor| Sony | Sony Style USA

HDMI in and has headphone out to monitor audio!

Looks noticable slimmer than other monitors I have seen, nice combo with a K-01

I've got that one. Really nice monitor. Unfortunately, I paid $500 not very long ago.

I don't know how it will act on the K-01, but on the K-5, while recording, it's not fullscreen and there's no audio. It's only fullscreen and allows you to hear audio during playback. Which is somewhat useless in terms of audio monitoring...

But in all other ways, it's a super nice monitor, and a nice size.

Well that sucks! , it will probably be the same as on a K-01 then.

The next option would be a Mic with a headphone preamp built in. This one coming out soon does among other things!

Yeah, that's an option. Or just go with the Zoom H4n, and go for a completely external audio kit, then sync in post.

Zoom H4N has some issues but there are also other on the markets in the same price range but do your study, it's important to known what kind of microphone you will use.

What issues does the H4n have? Haven't heard of any before. Everyone seems to love it, and it's definitely the standard with DSLR filmmakers.

It's not a real issue but just a negative point, the H4N hiss with some mics
Here listen to the H4n with a Condenser Short Shotgun Mic & the Dynamic Omni Mic sound and you hear what i mean.

Tascam DR-40 does a better job bit with some but a worse job with others.

I use the rode ntg-2 and as you can hear that sounds very well on the tascam but with the H4N you hear a hiss with the shotgun and that's often the type of mic most use.

So basically non is generally better, you just need to find out which work better with the mics you want to use and go for that.

Interesting. I use an H4n and an NTG-2, and I haven't noticed a bad hiss. But listening to the two comparisons on that webpage, it seems pretty obvious. A lot of times you don't hear stuff like that until you hear an example of something better. Now you're making me want an DR-40 to use instead of the H4n. Is it smaller than the H4n? That would seal the deal...

So good as the same size but the DR-40 but it is almost 2/3th of the price of the H4N.

If you want something smaller you need to give up on the XLR.
The DR-7 looks pretty good then.

I've the olympus LS-10 myself but that one does have a hiss as well though.
