I seriously doubt Pentax will catch up to Nikon
D700 is Nikon's own sensor, not a Sony made item.
Pentax has no ability to roll their own sensors
D700 is a great camera today, 2009, 2008. Back then it was $3000
I suspect when D700 gets updated it won't sit at $2398 to start.
Then one will wait a year for price drops on D800, D700x or D700s.
So we're on edge of years 2012-2013
for lower cost deals on D700 replacement.
Once you have a Nikon camera inhand then you can shop for deals on Nikkor lenses.
As time passes those deals will dry up...
Adding Nikon D700 today will cost less than waiting till 2012
to see if Pentax is ever able or cares to respond to 24x36 sensor:
With 21st century designed full frame lenses, of course.
Anyways, very enjoyable Dark Side thread. Thanks !!!

Whether Pentax can produce anything that can challenge the Nikon FF remains to be seen.
If they could take all the innards of the D700 and put it into a K7 body - nirvana!
