Sorry for spamming the thread with my crappy test shots.. LOL

PS: these shots looked almost identical on my screen but in here they're quite different.
You gotta get out there and shoot! Posting 1024p test shots is going to bring you no peace, go use the equipment as it was intended and have fun!

Here's one of mine from yesterday to help get you going:

Thank you for going through the trouble of posting your thoughts and examples regarding the different lenses. Many of these are ones I have used on a D700, so your impressions will come in handy when my D800 shows up eventually. I am not surprised at any of these results though, they pretty much seem to jive with what these lenses did on the D700 for the most part.
Thanks, and you're welcome.

Another lens whose early reports look promising is the 28/1.8G. That looks like a real nice lens that I will have trouble resisting!

One of those lenser I have not tried is the Nikon 300/4. Optically, from looking at examples, it seems of comparable quality to the DA*300. I just wish the Nikon 300 was not so much larger and heavier. On paper it is the same size and weight as the Sigma 100-300 I shot. I am guessing the Nikon 300/4 handles a bit better than the Sigma, though.
Yes, that 28 1.8G is probably my next lens, and yes, the 300 f4 prime does handle better than the Sigma. The Sigma's huge hood makes it incredibly long for one thing.

I've been hanging around waiting for 2 lenses to arrive for a week.... If they don't show today I'm cancelling the orders and i'll just buy something else that I was already thinking about but too stingy to spend the cash on.

20 f/2.8D on D800

My Nikon wide-angle lens right now is the 20mm f/2.8D, which I love for it's size and center sharpness on my D700. Yesterday
I was able to go on a quick walkabout through some cityscape for a D800 + 20mm trial.

Initial conclusion: Flare, CA on backlit edges can be a problem, mustache distortion as well - but the distortion seems to
be handled fairly well by the 20's shipped lens profile in LR 4. Sharpness is very good at f/8, acceptable at the very edges,
although I would love to compare it directly to a 14-24 2.8, 16-35 4, 17-35 2.8 or Zeiss 21 - none of which I have. And of
course, I find the detail retained by this sensor + lens amazing.

It should be mentioned that the size was extremely nice on this walkabout - the D800 with the 20 mounted fit in to a very
small Tamrac Velocity 6x sling bag along with the 50 1.8. This is the bag I use to carry my non-telephoto aps-c combos
around, so essentially no size issue here.

Images below, all NEF 12-bit converted in LR 4.1 with some sharpening and slight clarity adjustments on a few, and later
some small contrast bumps to retain color in the shots I took after the clouds moved over.

(all f/8, ISO 100 unless otherwise specified)

Thanks - that Zeiss, beleive it or not, is calling my name as well - but it's in a queue

Here are a couple shots from the 50 1.8G from yesterday. I think this D800 would be a landscaper's dream based on what I've seen so far, and really these shots don't look as good at 2048p as they would printed...

I picked up my Sigma 85 & Sigma 150 OS today from Photoco in the Adelaide Central Market and took a few shots in and from the shop.

All 85mm @ f/1.4

Whomever said this lens was not sharp should run for cover.

Hmm.. maybe I should delete that last shot.. I think I can read that woman's credit card number ;-)

Treat Trust Wales is a charity for which I support. They are working to introduce a rehabilitation centre for the disabled and people getting over illness in Wales. Melanie Davies is the founder of the charity who was involved in a motorcycle crash at the age of 15 and broke her back and lost all feeling from the chest down. In later years after the health system had failed her saying that she would not live to her 30th birthday, she has survived breast cancer twice, and written an autobiography called Never say die. As a footnote she ended up marrying the surgeon who first treated her when she was admitted in hospital at 15.

Mel was rightfully selected as one of the torch bearers in the Olympic Torch relay through Swansea. Here are a few pictures I took when there to support her:

Jay, those shots are unreal. I am sooo jealous about the amount of detail there is!
Was shot #3 HDR/bracketed? The dynamic range with the sky and shadows is off the chart...

Simon, the pic of your boy is spectacular! As steve said, your new flash? Would love to know how you did it, if you care to share the magicians secret
