Here is a shot from a couple nights ago of my 2 and a half month old.

This image was shot wide open with my D800 and 50mm 1.8:

Nice child mate.. if it were any sharper you could almost use it as a microscope.

Thanks!

I use this lens quite a bit and I really enjoy the images it provides. Since I have been photographing a fair amount of action as of late, I was going to purchase a 300mm 2.8. This lens was practically free however, so I figured I would give it a try. I really enjoy using this lens and am happy to have it in my bag.
One of my best Nikon purchases as well, $491 on ebay.

I also have some shots from La Jolla with this lens, but it was on the D90

So this 300mm is the one with the big Manual switch on the focus ring right?

Yep, correct.

Mine was pretty much like new when I purchased 9.3/10. There was no dust inside, the blades were good and the images very good wide open.

My 300mm with leather lens cap attached weighs 3 lbs. 2 oz. wheres my 80-200mm AF-S weighs in at 3lbs. 10 oz. One certainly wouldn't expect the lens to have a 300mm focal length at first glance. Due to the smaller girth, some may find it a bit less assuming than a 70 or 80-200mm.

There are two on eBay right now.. one is around 780 and the other upper 500's. With shipping that's too much and a grey import of the latter unit would be a better buy at those prices.

Wow, there should be quite a few of these lenses to choose from on eBay. They shouldn't cost that much. You should be able to purchase one in pristine condition for less.

I've only seen a few over the past week and they weren't as cheap as yours and Jay's.
