I am truly amazed! These photos by everyone are really great! I just don't know if I can coax this kind of quality out of my rig!
There is only one way to do it. Go out and take some photos. Then go out and take some more. Get up early and stay out till late. Play and have fun. If you see something that you like take a photo of it. Doesn't matter what it is. The more photos you take the more you understand what it is you like and then you can structure your outings more carefully and with the right equipment to try and get the 'look' you want.

Thats essentially the way I did it. I bought my first SLR (Pentax K-X) in February 2010 and I took thousands of images in my first 12 months. It took me a few months with a camera in my hand to discover I had a tree fetish.

PS Great dog pictures Porga. Lovely mood.

These photos are stunning to me! They just jump off the screen with color and detail. I think I would really enjoy being able to take photos like yours! I guess it's purely subjective, but I like the one of the dog staring at the sun the best.

Sometimes I wonder why I even take the 70-200 off my camera... Lately, I'm really starting to "see" in this focal range when I walk around, even when I'm out with the intention to shoot wide.

In Vancouver (from October) - D700 + 35/1.4 & 85/1.4:

I've seen this Digital Orca during the day before but I didn't realize it had flashing LEDs at night that make it look like it's sparkling:

I didn't have a tripod with me so all night shots were handheld and shot between f/1.4-2.2 plus ISO1600. Slowest shutter speed was at 1/30 which actually isn't all that slow I guess!

Superb image ! Also I have a question - do you have any more photos of that dog from your image ?? And what kind/race is it ? I remember from my childhood we had exactly the same dog - but my mum never knew the name of race as it was randomly acquired. --manntax

Thanks

Some from London, specifically around Chelsea Bridge.

Nikon D800E Carl Zeiss ZF.2 35 f/2

1.

2. Converted in Silver Efex

3. There was a fairly strong storm and had I been both braver and incredibly fortunate I might have caught the lightning between the spans of the bridge.

4. Converted in Silver Efex
