Pentax SMC-DAL 55-300mm for $219?

I would stick to the kit lens to start, there is a kit lens thread lens disscusion sub forum also you might want to take a look at the 16-45 if you can squeeze it in over the kit lens.

My original plans were to get a used Canon 7d with kit lens, or a new 550d kit. That's around $1100 i guess. I wouldn't have been able to get more lenses though. So I got the K-x with kit lens for 550. This way i can spend the rest on some great primes. It's more about the lenses than you think. Slap a DA or FA Limited on a k100d and it will outclass a better body like the D90 with a cheap lens all the time.
My advice would be to get the K-x body only and the DA 16-45 f/4. And some primes. If you don't mind used stuff, look on eBay.
As I haven't used mirrorless or m4/3s, can't comment. I hear very nice things about them, but people are much more likely to take you seriously if you have a dSLR. Don't think about the brands now, you can always change later. Good luck, lovemehate.
