Sony/Minolta "Fast Fifty"?

Does anyone know if there are Minolta manual primes available for Sony/Alpha mount? Something on the order of a Pentax M50 f/1.7, etc? I know some of the Minolta mount lenses will work, but do they need an adapter? My wife has a Sony A300 and I'd like to introduce her to the fun of manual primes. (She won't switch to Pentax)

thanks!
Paul

Im probably mistaken, but AFAIK Minolta never made fully manual lenses in alpha mount I own the Minolta Maxxum 50mm F/1.7 which is probably the closest you will find
again, AFAIK

Hi Yeatzee - this is an AF lens, then? This would probably be a better option anyway. How would you rate this lens? Is it on a par with the M50 1.7 for low-light ability & sharpness? My wife complains about lack of sharpness with the kit lenses. Thanks for the quick reply!

PS - Minolta apparently did make some manual primes in MD-mount. I think they require an adapter to fit alpha-mount.

I was under the impression that the A/Alpha mount was AF?

Thanks for the input, everyone. I was unaware that A-mount was AF. I think an AF prime will work well for my wife, and won't be quite as intimidating as a MF version.

I have the Minolta Maxxum AF 50/1.7--you can get one for under $100 and they work great with the Sony cameras.

The older versions of the 50/1.7 have 7 straight blades, which sometimes makes for weird bokeh, but it's a very sharp lens, great colours and lots of pop! I prefer the look though to the Pentax 50/1.7's, which all had 6 blades.

This one was at f/2.8. Not bad for $90!

(They reworked this lens with rounded blades too--that version goes for more, and you can tell it by the rubber manual focus ring and it also says "AF 50" on the side instead of "AF lens.")

That's a nice shot w/the Minolta 50/1.7 - These are going for $85-100 or so on ebay. Sonystyle has a sale price of $125.00 now on their DT 50mm f/1.8 SAL-50F18 | DT 50mm f/1.8 Telephoto Zoom Lens | Sony | Sony Style USA

By most accounts, this is a decent lens optically, altho build quality probably not on par with the old Minolta lenses. Mostly plastic I imagine. Thanks everyone for the info.
