Last Resort for slide projectors

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but can any one answer me 2 questions. I have Hanimex Rondex 120 slide carousels inherited from me dear ol dad. I cannot find a Rondex in the US to view these slides. Any ideas as to another projector that will work? I also have a Vivitar 5000AF. This will not hold the Rondex 120`s as it is has a 100 carousel. Any idea where I can find either, Vivitar 100 carousels, or, did Hanimex make a 100 carousel. I have searched the WWW for weeks to no avail. I amrunning out of places to look. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest you consider a good used Kodak Carousel or Ektagraphic instead, and transfer the slides to the appropriate trays.
The Kodaks sold in vast numbers. Today the projectors, accessories and parts are cheap and plentiful on eBay and elsewhere.
They are very reliable, and it is still possible to find someone to repair them when required.

Aren't the Kodak projectors for 35mm and smaller-sized film? At least my Ektagraphic is.

Mickey, you can purchase a new Rollei 120 projector for $1100.

How many slides have you?

It may be easier and cheaper to have all of them scanned at a "utility" grade quality by a pro lab. Then you can get the keepers re-scanned at a much higher resolution.

Or you can setup those large transparencies on a masked light table and photograph them with your camera on a tripod, preferably using a macro lens. This should provide enough quality for viewing in larger detail. And as suggested above, scan the keepers.

Or just get a big loupe.

It's a 35mm projector. The trays hold 120 slides each.

Oops
I thought the OP was referring to something obscure like a projector for 120-sized medium format transparencies.

So, yep, the OP can pick up a functional Kodak projector and carousels for close to nothing if he asks around. A wanted ad in Craigslist should bring lots of responses.

I'm pretty sure there are only so many carousel designs out there, and it's very likely that the Vivitar projector you have is a copy of one of them. My memory's pretty foggy on the details, but we still sold slide trays of various kinds when I worked in retail. My local pawnshop seems to have a few, in original old boxes, but I didn't mark the details. (Actually, all I saw was the boxes. )

I think if you can find out what's compatible, it'll make the search a lot easier.

Thanks guys

Many thanks for the suggestions. The Kodak idea might be the way to go Chris. I`ve seen loads for sale on the web. I thought I might get them scanned, but to do all of them it`s going to cost a bomb. Anyhoo, thanks to all for the help. If anybody comes across any Vivitar compatible trays or carousels, let me know.

The Hanimex brand was never a big seller in USA, but I do recall seeing it in camera stores in the '70s and early '80s.

Wow, that sounds like a typical techie's capital, hardware and labor intensive solution.
Take this techie's advice: Get yourself a bargain on a nice Kodak Carousel and be happy.

Again, they're not 120 slides. The trays each hold 120-35mm (2" x 2") slides.

*holding up hand* Finally finished checking around locally: got nothing that'll help, Mickey. Ebay and Craigslist for you. Sorry! Did look promising.
