The Nikon may be a better camera for the OP but that doesn't mean it is better
than the K5. I looked at both but chose the K5 because it met my needs better than
the D7000. All modern digital cameras will do a good job. Most of the time
the choice is made because of ergonomics or reputation. The debate about
which is the better camera is pointless. All brands have their problems and
their good points.

With all camera makes having "issues", it makes sense to have a backup camera for those times when a maintenance visit may be required. if someone such as the OP chooses to have that backup be a different camera make to his/her primary camera, so be it. I also don't know how to make an opinion on a different mfr without trying it.

The only problem i can see is if it becomes difficult to switch between the menu systems of different camera makes. the OP will have to sort that one out.

best wishes,

That and the fact that one set of lenses won't work properly, if at all, on the other body - but as you say, it's up to the individual.

I still don't see the point of the thread

Me either, i think he just wanted to brag about his new camera :-)

I wish it was that easy for me to just buy the D7000. But there are some features on the K5 i just dont want to give up on.

I suspect that Nikon won't keep the price low on the D7000 next time around. I think they are just trying to gain market share with a low price for the new model series, but it won't stay this low the next time, IMO :-)

Interesting.

Although I did not have the primes I just find that the D7000 and its lenses balance very nicely and because of this feels lighter in use over many hours than my K10D.

But for sure nothing beats the Pentax pancakes for size!

The fact that the D7000 actually is lighter than the K10d might contribute to it feeling lighter, too

Probably because you care more about cameras than lenses. This isn't a fault necessarily, but when the shutter is open, it's the lens that is doing the work, and you chose to go with second best.
Enjoy your Nikon.

Or maybe he just prefers lenses that he can actually obtain, rather than just dream about.

That's doubtful.

And I don't see the point of people reading, much less posting in, threads for which they don't see the relevance.
