Help me decide to buy or not Fujifilm's X100..thank you.

I'm not losing sleep as yet but reading all the mixed reviews from testers doesn't seem to help my decision making and i think my retailer isn't going hold it for me to make a decision when there maybe possible buyers who already lost sleep on buying it

If in doubt, don't.

it's first of a kind, not fully refined yet. I'd pass on this first incarnation and wait for the real thing

That unreliable focus-by-wire and list of "Bugs, quirks and eccentricities" on DPReview tells me no, wait for another iteration. In the meantime, "Get a K-5 and a DA 15mm..." is what continues to echo in my head.

Wow that was quick, Kr has issues, K5 has issues...it's giving me issues reading about all the issues...LOL but yes i've been thinking hard about all the possible combinations ...i should have NEVER given my K200D/3lens bag away but it went to a very happy, now converted Pentaxian and hopefully i hope they know how well designed that model is and how rich images are being made via the lenses.

All good advice being tossed in my self fought decision process.

The direct aperture ring and shutter speed control are sure nice! But it's rather large and focus-by-wire sucks. Of course I've only ever used it in a store, so who am I to say?

Buy FA*24 instead - faster AF, shorter shutter lag, better IQ...

Canon should come out with a 2011 version of the Canon 7 rangefinder

I think I'll just go to the store tomorrow do my usual zombie stare and drool then stutter my usual opening remark ,"duuuh" and probably walk out with another L lens

I actually have and use the camera daily. In fact my Pentax gear hasn't been used for over 4 weeks now because this camera is that good if it matches what you like to do photographically. It's easily as good image quality wise as my K5 with 31, 43, or 77 attached. If I had to buy it all over again I would do so without a moment's hesitation. But it's definitely not a camera for people who like to do headshot portraits or like to use zoom lenses.

Here's a couple good articles on the camera:

Yes I find myself favoring the wider end of the focal range even with zoom lenses, 8-16 on 1.6x, 5.1 on the P&Ss even 7-14 if I add M43 plus I find myself for want of a daily shooter to be "light" even film I prefer the older spotmatic with a 55.
btw it's huff's enthusiasm that has me curious on that X100 with all it's quirks; that said, others just won't accept it and won't recommend it at all especially over Leica's X1 citing whatever reasoning they can find to disregard it's existence lol

Like I said, even with all this research, advice seeking, I still end up just deciding "then and there", the curse of being an amateur with hobbies

Not being able to change lenses, and having to correct all shots for slight distortion are deal breakers for me. Oh, and the price.

The Fuji screams "wait for version 2.0".

I like it, but the price is........hard to justify.
