Sony new FF camera $1399 & $900, +16-50 f2.8 'kit lens' for $700

Is Sony become the 'old Pentax' where you get more bang for the bucks?
I like my K-5, but with the same money I can get a new FF in Sony.

This is pretty crazy price I think...

From Adorama:
Sony today revamped its lineup of interchangeable lens cameras, including: The A77, the successor to the full-frame A700 ($1399, available in october). Unlike the A700, which was a mirror-based DSLR, the A77 uses a translucent mirror and EVF configuration. Features include a 24MP 35mm-sized sensor, 12fps full-resolution (which Sony says makes this the world's fastest camera), and an OLED electronic viewfinder that is said to project near-optical quality images. Along with the lens is a 16-50mm f/2.8 constant aperture lens for $700. Along with the A77 is the A65, also a full-frame, 24MP DSLR, but with fewer features it will cost aruound $900 for the body.

The A77 and A65 are APS-C, not FF.

Adorama's write up is 100% wrong on this point.

It may be the successor to the full frame A700, but the A77 itself is APS-C. Source.
The a65 and NEX-7 also announced today use the same APS-C 24MP sensor.
This is good news because the K-5's successor will likely pack this monster of a sensor.

The A700 is APS-C as well.

The only FF Sony models are the A850 and A900.

Well it sounds like a good camera. When will we see this sensor in a K-5 successor?

High ISO samples look like total crap. 24mp was a big mistake.

care to share link to high ISO examples?

I was waiting for this camera for a while now...and I'm quite interested to see the pictures, unfortunately the dpreview gallery is off line now..

btw, anybody noticed that from the front the A77 resembles K10/20 quite a bit?

or is it just me....

Oops... sorry guys. No idea about Sony lineup. So it makes sense for APS-C camera.
Feel better now. LOL

Please remove if this is in the wrong section. I thought it is more appropriate here than the "Pentax News and Rumor" section ...

I'm shocked. The buzz said this camera had higher native ISO capabilities than the 16MP sensor. The K-5 beats the A77 by a stop. The K20D is a touch noisier but with a lot more detail, so probably about equal to the new Sony with similar processing. Not what I expected at all, nor what I was hoping for. I'm far more interested in noise performance than megapixels.

thanks DWB
...

well it might be worse than K-5 and K-r/x but for K-7 it's an upgrade IMO...
edit: I had a look at the test shots from the same page and I have to say that the K-7 holds it's own against A77 very well....

I'm obviously going to reserve final judgment until I can look at some RAWs...

So, specs don't a camera make?

I recently picked up The Vale of Kashmir by John Isaac. A wonderful photo book composed of photos from a 5MP camera. It's a shame Mr Isaac didn't know how outdated and under spec'd his camera was. He could have saved himself a lot of time and effort by just waiting until an uber camera such as the Sony or more perhaps the the next generation of sensor was available to make his images.

If Pentax replace the K-5 with a new body using the 24mp sensor, I may have to buy the K-5 before they run out, give me less noise, I have enough mpix.
