The #1 reason why the Nikon will sell well (and sell much more than the Q) is because of the "Nikon" word written on it.
And because it will be physically present in every big-box retail location on the planet. If Q were displayed at CostCo, it would sell. But Q is probably too good for CostCo, which seems to stock cameras that are, shall we say, of rather less than sterling quality.

Retail at $899 for the v1? Not that i was interested, but now I'm really not interested. I see Sony gaining more market share with their NEX line.

It would seem we're witnessing the birth of a yet another segment of camera market - sub-miniature interchangeable lens cameras or SILC :-). No one would quite remember that Pentax pioneered here but everyone would recall that Nikon were the first to capitalize on that. Either way, I am not interested in either Nikon CX or Pentax Q, both allowing too much compromises in resulting picture quality (as opposed to pixel peeped image quality). All IMHO, naturally.

Crop 2.7 + CMOS 10 MP sensor can offer really good balance noise/resolution.

Samples are not worse than m4/3.

When talking about the Q around here, it came up that the camera might be good for super-telephoto. I think the new Nikon V1 could be an even better option. In their press release they mentioned an F-mount adapter that sounds like it will auto-focus. Add AF with a (somewhat) larger sensor and it might be a pretty nice nature/telephoto camera...

I joined the bandwagon and threw my two cents in on my blog.

the problem - no any fast prime lenses. but I think it's not problem for Nikon.

no in-camera flash and the cameras have not good controls (tiny buttons, for example) and EVF is rather mediocre.

I for one was bewildered by the Q specs. So it's starting to make more sense now - 1 seems to be a similar camera. Seems less like Pentax randomness. I wonder if a marketing advantage of small sensor is snappy autofocus. I imagine that's one of the biggest selling points for someone migrating from a point and shoot. If you pick up a Q or a 1 in the shop, and it focuses and takes a sharp picture immediately you're going to be impressed if you're used to massive lags from point and shoot cameras. However, you won't know enough to worry about depth of field or low light performance.

Thanks for the video and the Nikon UK link...

I'm not convinced at all by this.

It looks like they are making an electronics-centric play a-la-Sony. At this sensor size, they will always inherently remain two stops behind Sony (three when Sony put a FF sensor into the E-mount).

How can you be so sure? Don't forget that the Sony sensor is 24MP while the Nikon one is only 10MP. So the difference in pixel density and each pixel size is about 10% only.
After all, the ultimate top ISO performance is not so important; you can find many users enjoying LX5 class cameras with much smaller sensor than this Nikon.

I put forward in the other thread - The lenses don't look any smaller (OR faster) than what is offered in m43. Hence losing the benefit of the small sensor
