That sucks, always good to wait a bit on new electronics. Hopefully future batches wont have this problem, but there is no way this went through QA unnoticed. Sony decided to release the camera with this defect.

Don't really care, since I basically never shoot video.

There's a theory that this is related to the optical stabilization in the kit lens, but I haven't tested that theory myself yet.

The article says they isolated it to the body and that it wasn't the lens. I don't shoot video on my K-r, so I don't mind that it sucks, but I would have wanted to use the NEX for video personally. Still a great camera, but it's a bit frustrating that Sony would knowingly release it in this state.

Yeah, i read about that too but apparently it's the position sensor which is responsible for recognizing when you use the camera in horizontal or vertical position.
I was quite interested in the NEX-5N since i already own a NEX-3 and was waiting for newer versions but the newer models (except the nex-7) weren't quite as many changes as expected.

It certainly is a question of something inside the body itself, as it can be heard with no lens attached (BDDT). You can hear it most clearly when the lens (or bayonet) is pointing up.
I use my NEX strictly as a digital body for mostly third partly lenses and for photography only, so this problem doesn't bother me at all, but I agree with kenafein that Sony should fix it before releasing the camera.

you can hear it even clearer when you shake the body slightly.

Thank you for the vid. I am really interested in this camera for a number of reasons, but having that hanging out there is somewhat moth inducing to the wallet. Still, I am currently using the E-pl1, and the kit lens makes a lot more noise than that.
Is it the accelerometer?

"The video is unaffected by this sound."

If this is true then why are they calling it a "Performance Improvement for Video Capture".

I think they mean the clicking doesn't affect the image in any way.
