Maybe the D700 could hang on for a few more years as Nikon's entry 35mm body? The Canon 5d still seems to be pretty popular on the used market at around $900 despite its age, and I imagine they would still be selling well new at the right price.

I could see a variation of the D700 as the "entry" level FF. maybe a D700s, movie modes, and dual card added. Like the change from the D300 to the D300s.

I'm wondering if the white bump near the flash up button might be an LED lens register mark for use in low light conditions. Makes me think this camera might see in the dark. If it does do extreme low light, how low will it meter?

I like the built in viewfinder curtain.

I'm wondering what the red button by the mode button is for, and what the fourth button is with the iso/quality/white balance buttons.
I think the red button is a movie record button, as seen on other Nikon models like the D3100 and D7000. The fourth button on top of the mode dial looks like a BKT (bracketing) button like on the D3 series.

I dunno if it'd be LED.. it's probably just like the one found on the D7000.

Funny how Nikon might now put out a 36MP FF body while Canon decreased their latest FF offering to 18MP.

The times, they are a-changin'.

I guess it would depend on continued sensor availability and whether they felt like it would undercut D800 sales. I don't really know who makes the D700 sensor. Seems like it is a Nikon design, but I don't think Nikon owns any fabs, do they?

I am not so much concerned with the MP's or the cost, just as long as it has one of those cool round shaped eyepieces. I want this camera!

Nikon buys sensors from Sony.

huh... Look at that. Never noticed the bump on the D7000 before.

Funny how it looks like the reg bump on old K & M lenses.

But LED would be cool.
