Out for a walk, trying to give the Panasonic 25mm F1.7 a good go. On the GM5:

anyone particularly excited/intrigued by the newly announced Lumix Leica 9mm f/1.7 prime lens? I just might have to grab one -- would pair nicely with my Lumix Leica 15mm f/1.7. I have the Olympus 9mm bodycap fisheye but obviously that's not rectilinear and not f/1.7.

I am. But I need to choose between the Olympus 8-25 and this new prime, or sell some lenses.

Oooh, that Olympus 8-25 is nice. I like how small and lightweight the new prime is, and the price is lower than I expected. I don't have any autofocus rectilinear lenses that go wider than my 12-32 collapsible zoom kit lens, so this would seem to go nicely with my collection. (I used to own the old Olympus 9-18mm zoom but wasn't that happy with its optical performance). The Leica 10-25 f/1.7 zoom looks amazing but out of my price range and it's definitely big.

The view from Skelghyll woods, Ambleside, UK. After a day of drizzle the weather finally broke enough for me to go for a walk. This is looking across Windermere towards Holme Fell. Taken with the 40-150 F4 pro at 78mm F5.

First shot in a while as I'm still fiddling with the camera. Still struggling a bit to get the best from Olympus files.

The results I've seen look good. Might wait to see what the retail price settles at. I was thinking of the 8-25 Oly for an ultra wide but it's somewhat more pricey.

I've also been wondering about that lens, or more honestly, can I find an excuse to buy one. My Pany 7~14mm is an excellent UWA. Very good IQ even wide open. But it's a bit slow for interiors where UWA is commonly useful. I purchased a Samyang 12mm f2 which has amazingly good IQ in the center even wide open, and also a 7.5mm f2 Venus-Laowa, also an excellent lens for the price. But, the former is sometimes not wide enough, the latter is sometimes too wide, and both are all manual (I bought the 7.5mm before they offered one with auto-aperture controlled through the camera*). Truth is, I don't need the 9mm, but has that ever stopped me from buying something new??

*If I want a wider aperture on an UWA lens for interiors, why worry if the lens has only manual aperture control? Hate it when I use hard-headed common sense.

Your observations are useful. I've been thinking about what would be a good wide angle focal length. I've really only got the Pentax DA15 as a reference, which is around 21mm FF equivalent. So it's probably 9ish on mft. I was looking at the Laowa recently, nice lens but I think it's too wide for me, still.....

Macro first I think, that's the one lens I currently miss most. So much for sticking to a two lens zoom kit!

I have the 9-18 for IR mostly, it's really good there. I wonder if the 8-25 is equally good for IR. If that's the case then I will buy the new one and sell the 9-18.
