Do it. That Panny is even better than the 20mm: faster focusing, sharper, has OIS that works together with your Lumix cameras, very small and close focusing.

Yup, the close-focusing part especially is of consequence to me.

I have a birthday coming up in 8 weeks, so...

Specs for the upcoming OM 90/3.5 2x Macro Pro (from Digicame):

- Lens construction: 18 elements in 13 groups (2 Super ED lenses, 4 ED lenses, 1 Super HR, 1 HR)
- Minimum focusing distance: 22.4cm
- Maximum magnification: 2.0x (4.0x in 35mm format)
- Filter diameter: 62mm
- Size:φ69.8 x 136mm
- Weight: 453g
- Image stabilization performance: Up to 6 stops (Lens IS), Up to 7 stops (Sync IS)
- Dustproof, drip-proof, and low-temperature resistance performance

Edit: So, I think these specs indicate that working distance will be about 3" to get the full 2x magnification.

Some additional info has been leaked in Japan:
  • OM SYSTEM M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO
Suggested retail price: 231,000 yen including tax
Scheduled release date: February 24, 2023
  • IP53 dust and splash proof
  • Compatible with tele conversion lenses
  • Supports depth compositing
  • Up to 7 stops of correction effect with synchronous image stabilization
  • Supports AF with up to 4x macro when teleconverter is attached
  • 9.3 cm (3.66 inches) minimum working distance

231,000 yen is currently $1760 USD. Given the Japan price includes tax, in the USA it might be $1400.

Edit: It is $1499.

Jeebus. $CAD2050.

I thought it looks huge and heavy too, but then I saw 453g and I went to put my Laowa 100mm 2:1 on a scale to refresh my memory and... 724g (with caps)! So I guess making it F/3.5 and only having to cover the m4/3 image circle really paid dividends, because it has AF, is stabilized and weighs quite significantly less.

Looks like a seriously appealing lens, for those with seriously deep pockets. Unfortunately that would not be me.

BTW two G9s have recently slipped through my fingers on Ebay thanks to snipers. E-M1 Mark II bodies seem to go for slightly less than G9s, but the K-3 battery compatibility, larger EVF and 6K photo mode has me looking at G9s first. The GX9 seems fairly rare on the used market. All three models still in the running though, depending on what deals pop up before springtime...
