All 3 are lovely photos - and the frolicking finches are absolutely wonderful - but I'm curious about the background for the lily...

I was attempting to photograph a very small weevil, when this fairly large hoverfly showed up. I was using the Canon EF-S 55-250 STM + Raynox DCR-250.

That checker lily photo was taken while I was playing around with macro background cards. That's my favorite spring wildflower that pops up around here, but it hangs like a vulture neck and the beauty inside the flower is hidden unless the photo is taken from the ground looking up. When I tried shooting with the lens facing upward, the sky and overhanging limbs of trees in the background looked horrible. I tried various background cards to create a better background. Orange was the incorrect choice, but the more realistic green background shots weren't as crisp, so I kept and shared the orange one. From a macro standpoint, everything with me is still in the live and learn process.

Here's the view from the side, same background card employed.

The selective color works quite well here.

Shore spider on a buttercup. I'm surprised it hung out in the open like this for 5 minutes.

Yes, it does work, although oddly enough, I don't remember doing any selective color work on the photo--although it certainly looks like I did.

Wish I had done better, but I was definitely surprised and more than a little concerned about the conflict…

That is a GREAT wildlife image. An exceptionally rare opportunity and you did very well capturing the critical moment.
