Exactly. That said, it wasn't until I got the D700 that I truly appreciated how easy and fast it is to change the ISO on the K-5
Changing lenses too...

Quite true as well

Although I do find I do that I change lenses less often on the Nikon, but that's mostly because I ended up going (primarily) with a pair of zooms.

I like the looks, nice design, pretty conventional, but still a good looking camera. You Nikon guys.....is there anything like Tav on a Nikon? That is my favorite setting on the K5.
Regards!

No kidding it's a pain. I do really like the D700 (except for the size, it is just not fun carrying that camera) but it's not as user friendly as some other cameras I have.

And yep the D800 looks like another big honking DSLR. I'm pretty ambivalent about this upgrade. I just do not need a 36 megapixel sensor. Maybe next year.

No kidding. It's completely a## backward. I never liked zooms until I got that camera. I just cannot comfortably change lenses with it. Does anybody know why Nikon chose that direction for mounting?

I can't tell from the photos. Looks reasonably small. Are the size specs the same as the D700?

I haven't handled a Nikon before, how does it remove?

lens changing with Nikon is "left hand on body, right hand on lens"

Pentax is right hand body, left hand lens.

It didn't take that much time to get used to it.

As for TAV mode, in Nikon land it is the same as auto ISO + manual mode. Not as easy to get to, as it requires a trip into the menu.

Programming the Auto ISO function into the first line of My Menu on the D700 makes it fairly easy to get access to.. I'm guessing you can do the same on the D300?

Pentax is right-hand body... yep, where the grip is! I wouldn't like to be holding my expensive D800 body from the wrong side!

36.3 mp. Holy Crap. Is that not getting into MF territory?

MAN! The lenses you will need to make the most of this sensor will have to be insane!

There has to be a limit to the number of MP you can cram into a FF DSLR sensor before it becomes pointless yes?

Sheese; FF, 36MP, Nikon AF and "only" $3k. This is terribly tempting

The K-5 replacement will need to be 1) awesome and 2) cheaper that what the K-5 was on release othewise a second hand D700 will be cheaper.

Pixel density is the same as the K-5. I don't think there is anything insane about this, its a killer move if the ISO is as good as the D700.
