Nikon D4 takes 2nd on DXOMark

This one took me by surprise, as all the focus seems to be on the more affordable D800, but the D4 scored 89 on DXOMark:

DXOMark Sensor Rankings

Phase One is still at the top, but the D4 scores even better than the Pentax 645D (82 score). Technology advances yet again...

Nice to see the K-5 tied up near the top with the 645D and D3s though, the only cameras above it are phase ones and the D3x/D4, thats it.....

technology marches on. the 645D is now getting a little long in the tooth and i imagine it will see an upgrade in 2013. Still a pretty amazing camera but being challenged now from the lower end

DXO's ranking calculations are mysterious sometimes.

I wonder why the D4 ranks number 2 overall - it only scores 6th on colour depth, and only 11th on dynamic range. Only on Sports/high ISO does it actually score number 2.

I bet D800 will outperform it and take the first place.
D4 was done for speed in mind, the D800 is purely for IQ.

All the D800 does to me is give ginormous files sizes. Handy if you have clients needing them or if you produce billboards,
and great for bragging down the pub how many pixels it has

Not unexpected consider technology advances, soon the new tech in these sensors should ripple down to APS-C sensors, but yes I wonder how the D800 would do. Also,if im not mistaken the 645D sensor is made by Kodak? I wonder how Kodak's financial problems will affect that in the future.

Kodak sold their sensor unit to Platinum Equity Group awhile back. UPDATE 2-Kodak sells image sensor unit to Platinum Equity | Reuters
