If those are the only issues they are off to a great start since they don't affect the images being taken. I guess the sensor being an extension to the K-5/D7000/D5100sensor they have already ironed out most of the sensor bugs such as the stains.

I've done comparisons on lens costs a month or so ago, the Nikon f1.8 (yes fx ones) primes are mostly cheaper than Pentax f1.8/1.7 primes. With fast zooms, Pentax are cheaper and third parties available to both even cheaper. Can't beat the king of the aps-c bodies (k-5) on price atm though.

Hm. the wireless flash is the one problem that got me concerned
Its annoying when its not working with my k5 sometimes, but I dont want the same issue with D800.

You know weight is relative. Your K-5 is quite heavy compared to other cameras. And 1/2 lbf difference is the straw that breaks the camel's back?

Just viewed some samples a friend of mine snapped in the Nikon service center here.
I can't say I am impressed and he (D90 Nikon fan)was in agreement of this too.
I have the impression that its more mp of the same thing (ie. K5)
ISO performance is D7K/K5 like with the only good thing being able to zoom in more due to more MP.

This of course are causal shots.
The samples from studio shots or those shots where all factors fall into place that are on the internet are wonderful.

When the stars are aligned and the cards are all in place, yes, it has terrific o/p, but based on simple snaps (that my friend took), I starting to have doubts about paying $3K for real world usage that will obviously not have all factors in agreement. (ie. focus; subject movement; lens sharpness)

Maybe not technically, but who would want to preview every shot at the wrong tint?

I probably would :P Hopefully they will sort out the issues by early next year which will be just in time for when I would buy it .
Those people who only look at the previews for the histogram probably won't mind though.

Not to be too contrary, but I rarely ever pay attention to the color in my previews. All I look for is a) exposure, b) composition. I know that I'll be fixing my shots in post regardless.

Now, for people who depend on white balance on camera to shoot JPEG (which I'm sure there's quite few out there who do), then yes - this is an issue to them.

I'd think very few who are shooting a camera like a D800 are shooting JPEG except for reviews. You either have it on auto WB, a preset or manually set it for the light with a white card. In those cases it doesn't matter what it looks like on the screen. So that leaves only the case of selecting WB by manually selecting color temperature and looking at the feedback on the screen if that camera does that.

K-5 - Body weight Without battery or removable memory: 23.3 oz, Loaded and ready: 26.1 oz

Guess again. OH excuse me, you said gripped... I missed the constricting parameters inserted to put the K-5s weight up.

Why not add the NIKON MB-D12 BATTERY GRIP (D800) to make it oranges and oranges, oops the K-5 is lighter again. Not to mention that the Pentax grip is $150 cheaper.
Owning both the K-5 and the D700, I can say that with the grip (which makes the K-5 comfortable for me to use) the K-5 feels just about the same as the ungripped D700 (also quite comfortable to use).

I only use the grip on the D700 when shooting sports, where I need the 8FPS and the balance with my 100-300/4.

Often carrying my K20D for 15 km (10 miles) while taking over 300 images I can say without any question, I want as light as i can get, and I don't need a battery grip. I know you guys are talking to somebody, but it isn't me. The lightness of the K-5 is a selling feature... and if a D800 is heavier, even 6 ounces, it doesn't win in that category. Live with it.

I expect it's going to take a little longer for more issues to be flushed out, at least until more cameras reach more customers. Similar to the Pentax K-5 and Nikon D7000, I don't think issues will be immediately noticed. I'm willing to wait and see as the guinea pigs early adopters beta test the new cameras. Let's hope quality control has improved though so we don't go back to seeing more hot pixels, front/back focusing, sensor stains, banding, etc.

I think the K-5 is too small to be comftable without a grip (unless one has girly hands). Where as the D800 doesnt need a grip to make it comftable so for me(and many others) it will be lighter.
Add to that 24mm,50mm,85mm primes is a lighter again combo than my APSC counter-parts (15mm,30mm,55mm).

Who said FF is all heavy?
For me I will be actually shaving weight and whilst gaining all the FF advantages
