Sony DSC-RX100 20MP, 1" sensor compact

"Sony’s newly announced DSC-RX100 is a unique compact camera in design and performance. While it takes on the demeanor of a small, simple-to-use camera, it also provides a great deal of appeal for even the professional photographer. This camera’s control range includes modes that will provide auto exposure and scene-recognition tactics, or you can be left entirely on your own when working in its full manual mode. The design is also reminiscent of an interchangeable-lens camera, and features a rotating control ring at the front that allows you to control many of the camera’s settings, including focus and aperture settings. Beneath the sleek design is an impressive 1.0-inch 20.2MP sensor for outstanding image quality, and an incredibly fast Zeiss f/1.8 lens for low-light shooting and greater control over selective-focus applications."

Image samples are now on the Imaging Resource comparator:
Imaging Resource "Comparometer"
and their review of the camera has lots of image comparisons too.

I doesn't do too badly. IQ is decent but not great. Still, it does very well for it's form factor.

Using the scale you posted, 8x10" would be roughly the size of a tennis court, LOL

Tidy looking piece of kit. F4.9 at the long end is a tad disappointing, Doing the arithmetic shows that DOF will be pretty much the same as the 18-55 which isn't bad. When / if I'm in the market for something like that, I'm still favouring the Olympus XZ-1.

Since I have small sensor compacts like the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 with 24-480mm eqiv zoom and 1080p60 along with the Pentax Q with standard F1.9 and 12.5mm F1.3 lenses I would prefer a small m4/3 compact body to use with my m4/3 lenses like the Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95.
