Yet another new toy ( Nikon Coolmax P500 w/22.5-810mm eqiv lens)

I just received the Nikon Coolmax P500 today and it looks like a great superzoom for shooting in the 22.5-810mm range in a small package. It is not as good as my Canon SX30 IS with 24-840mm eqiv 35x zoom for handheld HD video at the long end since the SX30 IS has a better OIS. I took a few shots and video at the max 144mm (810mm eqiv).

I had the LI 120 which was the little sibling of the 500. I was very impressed with the overall image quality. I bought it in an emergency because my Canon G-9 crapped out. Sold the Nikon after about 4 months and lost about $25. Bought a K-r. Will lose much more if I decide to sell the K-r even though I only paid $500 for it.

I had the SX1 IS and enjoyed it. It was my stepping stone to a DSLR.

I do fancy an ultrazoom though, and Nikon's P510 seems pretty impressive.

I have yet to see any P510 full zoom HD video test handheld to equal my Canon SX30 IS in eliminating camera shake at the long end so I chose the P500 for it's wider 22.5mm-810mm eqiv zoom over the P510 with 24-1000mm eqiv zoom. The P500 also has a button/switch for HD (1080p30) and HS (high speed) 240/120/60/15 FPS video modes.
