I dearly hope that Panasonic promptly forgets that they ever even considered this (although from what I've read I don't think they really are anyway...).
Right now Panasonic has the 7-14/f4, 12-35/f2.8, 35-100/f2.8 and 25/f1.4 in their portfolio of Serious Lenses. They've just released the GH3, arguably their first Serious Body. They've just announced that they're developing a 42.5/f1.2 and 150/f2.8, further adding to the Serious Lenses list.
This is all Micro Four Thirds gear and I'd argue that in terms of performance
and price, it's gear that people are only going to buy if it's their primary system, something very different to a full-frame shooter having a GX1 and 20/f1.7 as a compact backup. To me, Panasonic's releases and announcements over the last 18 months indicate that they consider Micro Four Thirds to be a serious system - the best balance point of size and performance. For my use, I agree. That's why I'm a Micro Four Thirds user.
Saying that they may consider a full-frame system in the future (a system that none of the gear I've mentioned above would have a part in) just says to me that 'we're not really committed to Micro Four Thirds'. After all, why would I spend $1000+ per lens in a system that the manufacturer doesn't even consider to be top-of-the-line...
If I want full-frame, I'll get it. I want Micro Four Thirds because I
want Micro Four Thirds.
