First EOS-M review?

Canon EOS M review: was Canon's first mirrorless ILC worth the four-year wait? -- Engadget

...And they don't sound too impressed.

Yeah, that camera really does not make a lot of sense. Canon really needs to get on the ball and innovate instead of just lazily release "me too" products.

Canon and Nikon are so scared of cannibalising their DSLR business, that they are totally missing the mark with mirrorless.

Pentax could take that same advice as well.

One of my coworkers thinks Canon intentionally released a shitty mirrorless in an effort to poison the well.

It's possible that they released a substandard product to ensure that no Canon user would go mirrorless. Perhaps the inner cabal are happy for people to have something as well as a Canon DSLR (S100, G15, whatever) but not instead of a Canon DSLR. Dunno. It looks more like a simple screw-up to me. Hybrid AF should be blisteringly fast and able to drive adapted lenses reasonably well (like on the Nikon 1) so it may be fixed in a future firmware update.

I think the issue is the imagined demographic of people who currently use a crummy Coolpix or whatever, but who secretly long to spend £800 / $1100 on something that ain't gonna to intimidate them. They don't exist. Spending £800 makes you, by definition, an enthusiast and an enthusiast isn't afraid of a f**king PASM mode dial. The funny thing is that it's halfway there: that 22mm F2 is a hardcore lens. We'd all want one, right?

I would want this camera with the 22mm lens to sneak into concerts. I wonder if it could pass as a point and shoot.

I was planning to buy this, simply for the ability to mount Canon EF lenses, but I think I'll skip and buy the Nikon V2 instead.

Hopefully Canon will get it right in the next iteration.

The RX100 is a perfect camera for sneaking in to concerts. Not theatre though!

I have been thinking of the RX100 for concerts. I have a concert coming up in December, and don't know if I should buy the RX100. It's too expensive for me right now.
