Arrggh - Nikon V2 scores lower than V1 or RX100 on dxomark

I was so ready to buy a V2, but not after reading this:

They look like the same score to me. I mean, the difference in their 3 measure parameters is so insignificant in my book that it doesn't matter at all.

The one that jumped at me was 10.8 Evs for the V2 vs 12.4 Evs for the RX100 (dynamic range). Ouch. And more than 2 bits difference in colour depth between the two.

The overall score for RX100 was 66 vs 50 for the V2 (the V1 and J1 scored 54).

But even if the V2 scores exactly the same as the V1, that's disappointing in itself.

Yes. I wasn't clear but I was only talking about the V1/V2. With number that similar, I'd think what a person likes or doesn't like about the camera body and features would be the deciding factor.

I deliberately avoided buying the V1 because there wasn't much of a differentiation between the V1 and J1.

The V2 on paper looks nice (more shooting controls on the body, 15 fps) but it really needed a boost in image quality as well, given the very high bar now set by the RX100.

Oh well, looks like I will be waiting for the V3 ... the V2 would need to be massively discounted for me to be interested.

Also Nikon really needs to consider using the excellent EVF that's in the NEX6 and XE10.

The difference between V1 and V2 is insignificant IMO. It's like K-7 vs K20D. People were still happy to buy the newer model for the other features...

I agree, John. For 95% of parents buying dslr's to photograph sons and daughters in outdoor daytime sports, they'd do far better with a V1 or V2 than a dslr.

That explains why more people shoot through their phones than they do through a proper camera. IQ seems to be last on the priority list.

Have you ever shot with a Nikon 1 series camera? What kind of photos do you take? Where did you find the camera lacking? Do you have any examples to share?

Here's my friend Michael using his Nikon 1, which he loves - I took the picture using my RX100. Both these cameras are small enough to slip into the cycling jersey:
