BCN Mirrorless camera sales ranking for 2012

Interesting - top 3 in terms of sales for 2012:
1. Nikon 1 J1
2. Olympus E-PL3
3. Sony NEX-5N

The Pentax Q is No. 8!

Unfortunately, K-01 is No. 20.

Pentax Q only started to climb up the sales chart after its price drop to around $300. It really did not sell well at its original price.

To be honest, I think Pentax has little to celebrate in mirrorless market. It could not get over 10% market share with only 4 competitors before Canon came along. Now that the EOS-M is released, Pentax would probably continue to stay at the bottom with its current line up.

In terms of manufacturers, this is the ranking for 2012 mirrorless market in Japan:

1 - Olympus 29.8%
2 - Panasonic 23.6%
3 - Sony 20%
4 - Nikon 14.3%
5 - Pentax 9.4%

Is this ranking for the entire sales figures for 2012? Some ( a lot of new) models haven't been out that long and judging from the top 3 which were out all of 2012, the numbers may be inaccurate based on what is hot now. Also, are these figures for Japan only? BTW, I dont have a beef with the report, just had questions that came to mind.

Yes, this is for Japan only. And the sales data is from Jan 1 to Dec 24 2012.
For up to date sales figure, they also have weekly and monthly sales chart, but those only have ranking and there is no market share percentage.
Only the yearly or quarterly summary gives you the exact market share percentage for a specific model.

They did quite OK, with little effort and cameras which were too expensive in the beginning (the K-01 wasn't even available for the entire year). Of course, we're talking about Japan and that means Pentax actually had marketing campaigns - but AFAIK they weren't serious about that until few months ago (I might be wrong on that).
Both the Q system and the K-01 were leftovers from Pentax Hoya, and it took some time for Pentax Ricoh to adjust their strategies to match the new premises. I hope they're making a profit on the K-01, and they're not just clearing them out.

Wow, Pentax beat out Sigma; but naturally only for camera bodies and not items such as optics

I'm honestly surprised to see that Micro Four Thirds has more than half the market. I thought Sony especially would be closer...
