Looks like Pentax isnt the smallest and most compact APS-C DSLR anymore now this Canon is out!

The masses will believe it cause Canon will market it.

Small dslr with eos mount and big lenses.
Pentax is still smaller as a dslr system.
Furthermore, milc are now smaller.

Top that off with Canon's usual stingy offering of features on low end models and I'm sure a Pentax is better.
I also think that the mirror looks small (80-85% view?),

It might still get success.
If its sized like a GH-2 and costed low, it might appeal to the layman.
The layman typically wants a small, light, cheap, dslr like camera, and assumes it takes better photos for him.
With the right marketing push, it might just work (or at least this is what Canon hopes for)

my hand already lost grip on 600D, this one obviously for little girl market. EOS 1100D/Rebel T3 Probably better choice.

No doubt mirrorless is smaller, but a compact FF the size of this canon with a big viewfinder and the 3 FA limiteds would make a killer combo. Pity canon doesn't have anything like the FA limiteds.

The viewfinder is actually bigger than the EOS 700D / Rebel T5i's one: same coverage (95%) but bigger magnification (0.87x instead of 0.85x).

(Pentax K-r: 96% coverage and 0.85x magnification; K-30 and K-5: 100% coverage and 0.92x magnification)

with more plastic than ever.

Well a desperate move IMHO, but it will sell thanks to the Canon logo on it.

Well they aren't. And they are correct for not getting excited about this product. Any size/weight reduction in DSLR's doesn't really have any benefits and only compromises features.

When a camera isn't pocketable then it will need it's own bag. And as soon as one has to carry around a camerabag, all size reductions are futile. I lug my giant FF gear around just as easy as I lug around my K5. In fact, I use the very same bag for it too. And I carry the same amount of lenses. The FF gear just fits a bit more snugly the the APSC gear. If I could pay for a 645D, then I would take that everywhere I go, instead of my other cameras. (Although that actually WOULD require a different bag, I think.)

They will sell heaps of these in Asia to aspirational females in emerging economies... China, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia etc. In knowledgeable places like Japan, HK or Singapore, their husbands and boyfriends will guide them elsewhere. I expect to see a lot of these in HK Disneyland in the hands of regional visitors. For this demographic though, Canon may as well make a mirrorless that looks like a DSLR. 95% don't use the viewfinder, but think the DSLR style displays wealth and good taste.

They'll only ever be used with kit lenses, and will produce great results in the owners' opinion. I guess that is all that really matters.

It does look like Canon are clutching at straws for the moment. Momentum doesn't last forever.
