An affordable Leica P&S!

Leica C Digital Camera (Light Gold) 18485 B&H Photo Video
Leica C Digital Camera (Dark Red) 18489 B&H Photo Video

I just got an e-mail about this Leica announcement. Looks like a really nice compact! Would make a great gift idea IMO, though in terms of IQ it probably won't be anything too special.

  • 12.1MP 1/1.7" MOS Sensor
  • Leica DC Vario-Summicron f/2-5.9 Lens
  • 7x Optical Zoom, 28-200mm Equivalency
  • 3.0" TFT LCD with 921k-dot Resolution
  • 200k-dot Color LCD Viewfinder
  • Full HD 1080 Video in AVCHD and MP4
  • Optical Image Stabilization
  • Wi-Fi with NFC & Leica C Image Shuttle
  • Compact and Stylish Design
  • Adobe Lightroom 5 Download Included

Isn't it just a rebadged Panasonic LF1? A good camera, sure, but that red dot sure adds a lot to the pricetag.

Meh, that makes this just as disappointing as the X-vario announcement.

Not as disappointing as the Hasselblad-Sony freakshow, like the $7,000 Lunar, a.k.a. NEX 7, or $2,000 Stellar, née RX100.

Well then, that almost makes the red "steal me!" dot a freebie!

They will sell plenty of these because some people will simply pay for the red dot.

I'd rather use a Q7, and paste on a red dot sticker.

After just price checking the links, the Leica is $101 more. Conclusion...if you already own Lightroom 5 ($149) buy the Panasonic. If not, save $48 and buy the Leica.

Just got to say.....the Leica looks cooler.

I'm getting $498 for the Panasonic, and $699 for the Leica, which is a $201 difference. That dot still costs $52.

Still, it's better than paying $6,000 extra for an H.

The LF1 is a pretty disappointing camera. Surprised Leica bothered.

And now you know why I had to re-take my math in summer school every year.

In today's age, companies don't sell products anymore, they sell brands. Everything is manufactured in China anyway. So this makes perfect sense (for Leica/Panny).
