So basically Nikon is admitting the D600 had a sensor problem, but won't admit it had a sensor problem.

... apparently, you can "purchase" the new model to correct their problem.

When I sent in my D600 for a sensor cleaning, they replaced both the sensor and the shutter assembly. The article talks about a "new" sensor in the D610. And it didn't cost me a dime not even shipping since the store I purchased the camera from took care of it all. So anyone with an D600 should take advantage of this while it is still under warranty.

But soon after I traded up for the D800 for the wider focus area. I never shot DX lenses on it but definitely wanted to move that focus point further over to the edge for composing people pictures without doing the focus lock and recompose thing.

You mean nikon guys have to buy a warmed over D610 to solve their issues with the D600 - marketing genius!

I wonder when they will announce the D620 with the camera strap lugs they forgot to put on the D610.

Pentax did not pay for shipping when I had to send in my lens for its SDM failure ( and its still a slow focusing lens). Mock and laugh at the D600 all you want but appears they will fix it at no cost to you which shows more of commitment than Pentax did for me.

Reminds me a little of Pentax...

Pentax will happily charge you for repeated SDM repairs (sometimes four) and they are hard to get to warranty failures of their SDM repairs.

Don't know about US (and perhaps also protected by stronger consumer laws), but guys here in Singapore basically get 'played around' with numerous visits to the service center.
Unlike US, SGP is a small place, so the customer is to take a day of leave and go down the service center all at their own expense.
And make another such trip for collection (leave+travel costs+time)
and then again, if the stain crops up again......

There is no admission to the problem, so if warranty is over, good luck to those who want to clean it up for free.
