Actually the A7 24mp version is a better design. It has a quitter shutter and better battery life. It has better low light performance and faster auto focus. It is also a $1000 cheaper. It also produces better performance when using third party wide angle lenses. Enough said.

The A7 is still the best one in most respects. The higher resolution dose have benefits in some cases.

The A7 also have less shutter vibration since it has an electronic first curtain, while the A7r doesn't - strange choice for the A7r.

“I found that there is no discernible difference between an image taken with a strobe while the shutter was open for 10 seconds ie. no shutter vibration and a normal exposure with shutter vibration. I checked with a 35mm FE lens and a Nikon 85mm 1.4 and metabones adapter. I also did not see any difference in the A7R mounted on a sturdy tripod or resting on a table top. Both had image quality matching the strobe image with no shutter vibration.
I feel very comfortable in my conclusion that the A7R is not losing image quality due to shutter vibration.“

The A7 & A7R are simply killer cameras. Sure I mostly use them with adapted lenses, but it's great to be able put film lenses from any mount on a camera and produce beautiful images. Try a 31mm Ltd on one!

I'd say we're among the biggest online supporters of Pentax, simply because we love how their cameras handle, and the images they make. The adjustable AA filter is a very cool innovation that put the K3 right near the top of our list.

Really nice video and great picks, IMO. Kinda surprised that large-sensor compacts didn't make the Top Trends list, though (GR, Coolpix A, RX100 II, RX10, X100s, etc.).

The GM1 (#3) has a larger sensor than the RX100 II or RX10 and is about the same size as the Pentax Q .




BTW the Sony RX10 was voted #3 video camera ( Sony F5 was # 1 video camera ). Also the #1 Sony A7r is not much larger than the Fuji X100S .

There were many large sensor compacts last year like the Sony RX100, RX1 and the Sony NEX has been out for several years like the Fuji X100. Then there is the Nikon 1 series , Canon EOS M & G1 X compact large sensor cameras but the Sony A7 and A7r marked the first time compact full frame DSLR style cameras have hit the market .
