I'm not sure why anybody would buy this over the older E-M5.

Compared to the E-M5:
Adds new JPG processing engine
Adds wifi
Adds a built-in flash
Removes weathersealing
Removes 5-axis IBIS, in favor of 3-axis
Smaller battery from the Pen-lite and Pen-mini

Am I missing something?

I'm also not sure whether the EM10 has a magnesium body, which the EM5 has, if I remember right.

Used prices for nice EM5s is currently hovering around 500. I know which one I'd get.

E-M10 also has nicer screen, I think. Weight difference is pretty negligible (396g vrs 425g). Battery life is a little over 10% less. If I wanted to step into the m4/3 world, it would pretty much be a tossup between a new E-M10 and a used E-M5 for about the same price...

E-M10 controls are a lot better, and it's more compact if not a lot lighter. I've used the weathersealing on my E-M5 exactly zero times since I bought it, and in fact I've only used the 12-50mm kit once in any kind of conditions. As for 3- vs. 5-axis IBIS, I haven't noticed an appreciable difference in use even if it's there scientifically.

Just read that E-M10 has focus peaking while E-M5 does not.

Panasonic fabbed chip:

Chipworks | Olympus OLY-E-M1_Pri-Camera Camera Module

IMHO, this camera's reason for existence is to use cheaper parts. Which is fine, I'm not being negative here.

Sony has frequently provided fabrication for the first generation of a sensor type, then permitted licensees to outsource fabrication to other manufacturers. Nikon has used Toshiba fabs and Oly now uses Panasonic.

I bet that the GH3 was a stopgap camera meant to start the clock on the Sony chip, so that Panasonic could make their GH4 chip after 18 months of buying from Sony.

Interesting that the sensor includes PDAF sensors. My understanding is that the camera doesn't use them.

Ahh, I can't even keep the models straight. Probably because I'm reading what I want to read. The E-M1 uses a Panasonic sensor, the E-M10 might not (thought I don't think we know for sure).

Which also explains the PDAF sensors.

E-M10 uses the same sensor as the E-M5, so that might help you figure out who fabbed it.

It doesn't matter much, but at least one site says that the sensors are not identical:
