Agreed. But Adam, the sensor in this Nikon camera seems to be of about the same sensitivity as the Pentax K-20, and I am wondering whether the camera is not a bit technologically out dated.

People seem to love it seeing that the D800 produces huge files and costs 3k. I wonder if Nikon will ever release a non-retro camera with the D4's sensor to cater to D700 fans. Pentax could also step in there

The K20D? How do you arrive at that conclusion? The sensor in the D700 has less noise at higher ISO, captures more light at higher ISO ( up to 2.5 more stops around ISO800) and has focus speed and reliability the K20D can only dream of, no?

Disagree with that observation. Five years ago a friend bought the D700 as I bought the K20D and, despite my Pentax enthusiasm, the difference between the two was (disappointingly) night and day... especially as day became night! Nowadays he still uses that same D700 whilst I soldiered on with the K-x then K5 before finally admitting he got right and picking up a lightly used D700 in early 2012.

The D700 is holding good used value because as a still photographic tool it remains highly capable and relevant in the DSLR world.
