Full Frame Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 lens to be unveiled on April 20. Costs $799!

QuoteQuote:
Almost three months ago we reported about the first image samples taken with a prototype Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 Full Frame E-mount lens (SAR post here). According to one of our trusted source the lens will now be launched on April 20th! And it will cost $799. That’s $220 more than their other E-mount lens, the 35mm f/0.95 lens for ASP-C E-mount cameras (they are on auction here on eBay) which doesn’t cover the FF sensor area.

First image sample taken with the Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 Full Frame E-mount lens.

It looks like a fantastic lens to use with the new full frame Sony A7s that has a 50 to 409600 iso range.

The specs sound nice on paper. I wonder if it gets sharp at any aperture, though. If I recall, their recent 85mm lens has not been received very well. I would love it if Samyang would make a K-mount lens with those specs, though. I would buy it the day it was released.

No offense here but i guess sometimes apparent sharpness matters more than pure sharpness.
Unless of course, one may disgress, that they print often or they love pixel peeping..

That price is miraculous! If the specs are going to be as claimed...

I would trust Samyang a lot farther than I would trust Mitakon. They just don't have a great track record on creating quality lenses.

That's all true, but the track record you speak of - with the soft mitakon 85mm - the sample images didn't hide that. Now, there are again sample images. And these look like this 50mm f0.95 is going to be a nice one!

That DoF is shallow! A lens like that can really separate the boys from the men... those who get lucky and those who know what they're doing.

My thoughts too. Their other lenses are junk.

First image of the new Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 Full Frame E-mount lens!

I just got this picture and the full specs of the soon to be announced Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 Full Frame E-mount lens! Like I already told you before the lens will be unveiled on April 20th and costs $799 only. It’s Mitakon second E-mount lens after the 35mm f/0.95 lens for ASP-C E-mount cameras (they are on auction here on eBay) which unlike the new 50mm lens doesn’t cover the FF sensor area. Image samples of the soon to come 50mm lens can be seen on that SAR post (Click here).

The lens will ship in May and these are the specs:
Lens mount: Sony FE
Focal length: 50mm
Optics: 10 Elements (7 groups)
Image cover: 35mm full frame
Max. Aperture: f/0.95
Min. Aperture: f/16
Filter size: 58mm
Lens size: 87mm (L) x 68.5mm (diameter)
Weight: 720g.

Preorders will be taken from April 20th at eBay MXcamera. WIll link to the exact page as soon as it’s online!

Here is the lens design:

Yarg, so many interesting lenses for E-mount. This looks to be impressive, but where are the wide angles that take advantage of the short register distance?

A 50mm f0.95 lens can be a PIA to use wide open. If you hit focus, things look great. Other than that, the entire shot is blurry.

It will work ok at a distance of more than twenty feet. However at those distances it's used for light gathering not selective DOF as the DOF becomes wider. With higher speed film and sensors, what is the need for that lens speed? An f0.95 lens will weigh more than twice that of an f1.4, good for muscle building.

As I recall, I had a close range focus hit rate of maybe one in four. My RF focus was adjusted as close as possible and the lens was perfectly collimated. With focus peaking on live view YMMV.

Samyang has introduced lenses with Sony E-mount to increase its selection of 35mm full-frame lenses compatible with the newest Sony Alpha 7 and 7R cameras.

Following the announcement issued on October, Samyang released five full-frame lenses fitted with the bayonet Sony E-mount, including:

• Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC

• Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC

• Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC

• Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC

• Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC

Wider selection of lenses currently available with this mount will enable users of Sony Alpha and Sony NEX cameras to take advantage of the best quality optics without any additional adapters. The lenses have been prepared for 35mm format, which makes them a perfect tool not only for Sony Alpha 7 and 7R cameras fitted with full-frame sensor but also for models with APS-C sensor, including Sony NEX-7.

Samyang already makes 7.5/3.5 and 8/2.8 fisheyes and announced 8/2.8 remake (24 mpx ready) and 12/2 (which is quite small too)
Sony has rather unimpressive 16/2.8 and 20/2.8, but they do use advantage of short backfocus

Mirror in K-mount doesn't allow to make f/0.95 lenses. One can still make "invasive" lens for K-01, but the market is very small (albeit K-01 has IBIS!!)
well, since f/0.95 on aps-c is equivalent to f/1.5 of FF, and Pentax doesn't have any FF bodies, it would be little reason to make fast lenses.
