Sont RX100 Mark III

(SR5) Sony announcement at exactly 5am London time. Stay tuned on SAR! | sonyalpharumors
Amazon.com: Sony DSC-RX100M III Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera: Camera & Photo

Damn, looks like the perfect pocketable point and shoot. Built in EVF, a bright/fast Zeiss zoom lens, built in flash, tilt-screen, and a pedigree to produce some wonderful images from the 1 inch sensor.

Wow....
"Zeiss 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens which is wider and brighter than the previous Zeiss 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9 lens"

That is pretty much exactly the lens I have been looking for in a PnS, mated with the 1" sensor!
My biggest gripe with the orginal RX100 was how slow it was on the long end.

If I got this, my bigger cameras would be relegated to the closet, only taken out on special occasions.

Sony continue to shoe-horn some very good tech into the RX100.

I was impressed when they managed to add a flippy screen in the RX100 II. Now the RX100 III gets a flippy screen AND a compact 'poppable-uppable' EVF AND a generally faster lens, plus a new Bionx CPU, fancy UHD video options etc etc.

I'm very happy with my RX100 'classic', but that new III hardware would be really useful to me. Flippy screen for low-profile and tripod shots, EVF to combat bright daylight. If my current RX100 ever dies/drowns/gets lost or stolen, I can certainly see a RX100 III in my future..

Lot of cash for the durability of a P&S.

I wonder if they'll put a built-in EVF into an RX2.

I lost my RX100...but my wife wont let me replace it
I think that is a real drawback of such a small camera. If you put it down, it isnt immediately apparent that you don't have it. A DSLR on the other hand, if you put it down, you know that you aren't carrying it anymore.

True. P&S can take a beating. But the RX100's are well made devices. Quite durable. If they provide even 3 to 4 years of good service, the initial cost doesn't look too bad.

That's very true. I remember once putting it on a GorillaPod to record some video while I shot a gig with the K-5. After packing up etc, I just about walked out of the venue before I remembered I had left the RX100 behind.

So tempted to upgrade. I must admit, I initially thought the RX100 was too expensive and I already had the Nikon 1, but then Sony made me an offer I could not refuse and since then it has become one of my favourite cameras - image quality is better than K20d and the small size meant I could carry it anywhere.

This new camera is a whopping A$1099 though - costs more than an entry level DSLR with twin kit lenses - that's a hefty premium for portability!

Nice that they added an EVF. Looks like a very compelling premium compact!

If/when I buy this to replace my LX3, I will order from the USA and have my sister ship it to me in Melbourne. Probably saving me $200-300. If I can wait, I will just buy in in the States when I go in December and just bring it back with me here.

Jasvox - just be a member of Sony X (PM me for details) you get a hefty discount across all Sony products, plus they run extra special pricing every six months (next will be around Xmas to New Year period I am hoping)

I'm now a complete Sony fangirl - buy Sony for everything - our house looks like a walk in ad for Sony - because they really make it worthwhile.

I saw this camera and was blown away by its potential. Now if only Pentax made a Q version of this kind of body! A Q3? Can I dream?

Very interesting camera....now that it has an EVF. The range is a little short, but I think I could live with it for most shots. I'm waiting to see what Fuji does with the coming X30, but this Sony definitely is appealing.

Regards!

Honestly, I can’t think of any other pocket-sized camera that can slightly give the latest RX100 a run for it’s money. This sounds like a paid endorsement, but in my opinion, the RX100 MK III is the best compact camera ever produced.
Sony RX100 Mk III First Impressions

Looks like another hit by Sony !

$900 in Canada!

For that much money you can buy not just one... but two... TWO Fuji X-A1 cameras! AND still have a $100 left over.

Does the X-A1 have a VF ? Is it pocket size like the RX100 III ?
