I was testing a Sigma 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 DC on my Nikon in Hyde Park and came across this little fellow just as he found an acorn - seemed very pleased with it.

I met this squirrel 2 years ago next week. He was very shy but he knew me and we developed a rapport. He died last week in his third season. This is how I will remember him. His tale was as dramatic as Meerkat Manor. I might print this photo so he can enlighten my days like he used to.

A picture from almost two years ago;
I wonder if this guy remembered where he buried food the previous Fall, when food was plentiful

I declared yesterday - U.S Thanksgiving - to be the beginning of 'feeding season' ...... then discovered that there was no plexiglass in the old squirrel feeder {and no one was open}, so I had to wait until today to purchase a new one. Of course, the hole in a new one is tiny - the squirrels had gnawed on the old one to enlarge it - so today they found it easier to eat the birds's leftovers {the birds had sunflower seeds yesterday}. I wonder how much time passes before they eat the food I put out for them {I don't really care as long as the "squirrel proof" bird feeder keeps them out}.

A leucistic gray in my daughter's yard in Wichita, KS yesterday (American Thanksgiving). Not exactly shy. Or quiet.

Every year drivers re-learn to drive in the snow ....... and Squirrels re-learn that the bird feeders aren't for them.
The entrances look closed to me but he kept trying for a while.

The gap in the new Squirrel Feeder is small, but their teeth will take care of that over time.

Food comes only slowly out the tiny hole in the new Squirrel Feeder, but some clever squirrel has figured out a way to speed up the process.

The squirrels apparently are getting something from the "squirrel-proof" Bird Feeder - but it is taking a lot of time and work,
Here a guy takes one of frequent breaks.
Unfortunately, the "bird brains" don't come and feast when he isn't using the thing.

Melanic or melanistic squirrel which have become more common locally over the past five years or so. They seem to yield to the more common greys if there is any dispute.

The coloring sort of reminds me of our ‘tortie’ cat I named “Annie” thinking of Annie Oakley.

She {the cat} yields to no one.
In fact she is our second ‘tortie’ cat.
The first one took on our one-year-old cat when she about ten weeks old.
Unlike the ‘melanic’ squirrels, ‘tortie’ cats have what is called ‘tortitude’.
