Taking a brief break from gobbling down birdseed to see of there's any danger nearby.

Birds have been eating under the birdfeeder all day, so this squirrel had to really look to find anything

This Squirrel has figured out how to get nibbles from the bird feeder.
But as soon as she gets greedy and tries to get an entire mouthful,
her weight shifts, closes the opening, and she has to start over.

Most of the Squirrels we have around here are the bigger, redder "Fox Squirrels", but every so often one of the smaller, browner ones shows up.
Sometimes one of the Fox Squirrels will stare at me. but this is the first time one of the others has - he must have really been feeling confident.

An alert young squirrel in the park near home. I had a few minutes before dinner to take a few shots with my new Super Takumar 200/4. On a Fuji X-T20 crop sensor body, this is plenty enough lens for semi-wild park animals.

Today I noticed a squirrel nearer the garden area than the squirrel feeder. Yes, She apparently found corn that had rolled that far, but her 'adventuresomeness' is further evidence of my decision to stop buying feed for them after Easter - they will do just fine on their own.

The "little guy" is back.
I know he is the size of the average American squirrel, but he looks so small compared to the Fox Squirrels which are so common around here,
that I do notice him whenever he comes by. I did notice that the Fox Squirrels waited until he left before any of them came to eat.

Ok, after lurking for a while, I have to post this one. This is a northwest pine squirrel. Not the usual backyard type, they are pretty much loners and don't mix well (being very non-social with other pine squirrels & chipmunks)). They usually hang out in the woods and start scolding you when you enter their territory but with a little proper feeding, they become much friendlier and hang out where you are. This guy would stretch out on a wood plank and watch me eat my lunch every day, hoping for a handout (which he got after being patient). At other times, he would busy himself with gathering winter food stores and moving them to nesting sites for safe keeping. He would spend an hour or more going between the feeder and his storage spot, one sunflower seed at a time until all were gone. Too much energy for me
