Just when I thought that things couldn't get any better with the $379 deal on the Pentax K-500, Canon pulled a fast one:

Canon EOS Rebel T3 DSLR Camera and 18-55mm IS II Lens 5157B002

I know it's an old body, but it's still a DSLR kit that's priced in bridge camera territory.

It's sure a low price, and I understand Canon has much improved the 18-55 lens over what it was a few years ago (back then IQ was markedly inferior to the Pentax 18-55). So it could be a good buy for some shooters.

But ever since the TXi line came out a while back, most entry bodies below it seem to produce rather dull photos (and this was one of the key offenders, IIRC). So I think you'd still get better IQ from a K-500.

Post processing makes up for a lot. This is a good way to get into expensive Canon lenses :-) Actually with the 10-18 and 55-250, a casual shooter could be set for under $1,000.

And don't forget Magic Lantern can extend the usefulness of a Canon DSLR body.

I've heard the 75-300 is the worst lens ever :-) Not sure of the focusing system, but no IS.

Except on the 40D I have and the 70D I might get...

Among its functions is focus peaking which Canon has in their video, but not in DSLRs.

PP is what every entry-level buyer wants to do

Now that Canon's taking their entry-level lenses more seriously, you have a good point. A $300 10-18 and a 55-250 might do the trick.

And then they can leap right over the under-performing Canon mid-range lenses and go straight for that expensive L glass. Or not. So they'll just never more, or they can switch to one of the other DSLR brands which takes the mid-range seriously.

Also, never mind the Canon's class-trailing high-ISO performance.

At this price, you could buy two Rebels (with the 2 lens kit) for the price of one RX-100 III.

But then again, for about the same price as the Rebel you could also get an EOS M with lens, or the excellent 20MP APS-C Alpha 3000, with a kit lens.

Bottom of the market seems to be crowded with some pretty good options for new camera buyers at the moment.

I think this is probably unsold inventory. Still, it's a good deal for a Canon shooter who might want a backup body.

i vote for ultra mega massive amount of it. Hell, all those inventories might cost them armes and legs...

It probably fit quite well as it mean they don't have to cut the prices as much on their later cameras. And as Canon T3 still sell very well it seems to work fine for them.
As they recently released T5, the T3 is probably close to its end of life.
