PP is what every entry-level buyer wants to do
Now that Canon's taking their entry-level lenses more seriously, you have a good point. A $300 10-18 and a 55-250 might do the trick.
And then they can leap right over the under-performing Canon mid-range lenses and go straight for that expensive L glass. Or not. So they'll just never more, or they can switch to one of the other DSLR brands which takes the mid-range seriously.
Also, never mind the Canon's class-trailing high-ISO performance.
