Nikon D600 class action lawsuit settlement reached: D600 owners can get a new D610 ca

Did Nikon just open Pandora's box, setting a new expectation / standard for all new camera models that have problems?

The D600 problems were pretty bad, and Nikon failed miserably at stepping up and handling the problem. They rushed the 610 to market and made it obvious that they knew the 600 was defective. This is one reason why I hesitate to move to Nikon for FF work. Maybe the D810 finally has all the bugs worked out.

...and then there is the matter of the Chinese government which threatened to ban sales of Nikon product in China as a result of the D600 issues.

Between the D600 and the rather poorly thought out Df is easy to see why Nikon is struggling. Olympus and Fuji come in and produce excellent cameras with retro designs and Nikon makes a half-@$$ attempt with the Df. The D600 could have been a great camera for the money, and the D610 is much improved, but Nikon has been doing this long enough that they should have been able to get it right the first time.

A buddy of mine is pretty ticked this is US only. He's on his second D600. Canadians appear to be out of luck.

Tuco traded his D600 for a D800 over a year ago...As for the Df, I would seriously consider one if I had the funds.

I was excited about the Df, but Nikon went cheap on build quality and then put the D600 AF in it. If they had gone with build quality on par with the K-3 and the D800 AF I might be shooting a Df right now. They did a bad job trying to make it a retro camera. They should take notes from Fuji or Olympus. I really wish Fuji or Olympus would make a FF mirrorless body. Sony still doesn't seem to understand how to make good cameras. After the A900 I was pretty excited about Sony cameras, but then they went down hill. Too much of a consumer electronics mindset.

A friend of mine just got her D600 replaced with a D610 here in Australia (albeit after 4 trips to Nikon for repairs and an angry phone call to head office)
Might be worth giving them a call to talk about it.

I wonder what they would say if you asked for the D600 to be replaced with a Pentax.
