Fujifilm X30 announced

Looks decent, though I wish they would have upgraded the sensor.

Bigger screen, better battery life, tilting display and removal of OVF seem to be the changes.

Sensor is still the same.

Front looks weird. It's like something is missing above the lens.

A bigger sensor would have been nicer, but having used an X10 and an RX100 which I still own, the Fuji was the nicer of the two for usability. The RX100 is pretty futzy small for anything but putting in in P or Auto and pressing the button. Of course I've never thought Sony understood usability when it comes to cameras. They get points for specs and innovation, but usability, not so much.

I was looking for a compact that is not the RX100 that has a 1 inch or larger sensor. I think the upcoming LX8 might be it, or the rumored fixed lens m4/3.

The X30 is close to $200US cheaper than the RX100III at B&H. I'd say that's a fairly substantial reason to consider it, if not a "need".

I think the size comparision with the a6000 is a bit misleading...

...add on an equivalent APS-C lens - 28-112mm at f/2-2.8 and you have a real handful compared to the Fuji.

Ryan, in the 1" category the Sony is great and now Panasonic have one worth looking at too!

Wow, you must have very small hands.

Don't misunderstand me.
I have a brand new a6000 equipped just a you picture it. So far it looks like a winner.
However put on an APS-C lens - 28-112mm (eqiv) at f/2-2.8 and it's just another heavy, clumsy, over-sized camera that you won't want to take to many situations.
Given that, arguably, the Fuji is a "smaller" lighter camera for real world use.

To me an APS-C format is "full frame" with all it's advantages and disadvantages. That is APS-C is as large and heavy as I'm willing to go given the size of the glass required.

I'm here! Nope, it won't get my $600. The OVF is wonderful in very bright sunlight and I doubt the EVF will be anywhere close to being as clear or as fast as genuine real time viewing through the OVF. Same sensor, so what is the gain in IQ? The body, though similar lacks the same fine looks as the X10/X20...something is just missing in eye appeal for me.

The Real Deal!
If you are looking for a small camera at a bargain price, the X10 is the best around. Check out the shots from this PF poster (Jacquot) and you will find some excellent work done with the X10. I have both the X10 and X20 and am on record here many times saying the X10 delivers more pleasing photos than the X20...and no doubt will beat the X30 too. There is some real Magic in the X10 EXR sensor that is just not there in the X20, and won't be in the X30.
The X10 is rock solid in your hands, has an OVF that lets you see in ANY light, and is as fast as "real time"...because it is real time! For around $400 you can have a small camera that you will fall in love with and enjoy for many years with its superb build quality and very pleasing results.
With the X30 you can pay more and get less....if Fuji thinks this is innovative thinking, they lost me in their thought process.

Look around over here and you will find some amazing X10 work among the thousands of shots you can view.....Junk is in the mix, as with any camera, but you can bet the really fine shots are better than any the X30 will produce. Get your X10 while you can still find one, you will not regret it!

This was the brides favorite shot .....and it was shot with my X10 by Mrs Rupert...the first day she had used it. Just set it on EXR and go!

More of my X10 shots...some good, some junk, I post it all! Wonderful little camera, and more fun than a box full of squirrels!

Best Regards.....Sorry Fuji......you let us down this time!

It's also missing a mechanical exposure dial.
