Just looked at the price of the new Samsung NX1 kit

Looks like that's a system I'm not getting any time soon. It with the kit lens is 2800 dollars. Wow. Amazon.com : Samsung NX1 28.2 MP Wireless SMART Compact System Camera with 16-50mm f/2.0-2.8 "S" Lens : Camera & Photo and the 50-150 f/2.8 is 1600 at Best Buy New Samsung 09162014 - Best Buy

I guess that puts things in perspective.

I read somewhere on this forum that the primes are very well-priced though, so a body-only plus primes kit might make more sense? Also, don't forget that the "kit lens" is a 16-50mm F/2-2.8...!

The Samsung 16-50/ 2-2.8 sells for $1100 in stores. And it's a great lens.

For the worlds only APS-C normal zoom (16-50) faster than F2.8 plus a camera with a new sensor tech that is higher speced than most fullframes out there, it really looks decent for the price. It's above the K-3 in hard specs for sure.

DA 16-50/2.8
List Price: $1,299.95
Price: $968.68

K-3
List Price: $1,299.95
Price: $930.53

Ad the list price and we are at about the same price tag.

And yes, the NX pancakes are cheap and awesome!

The 45mm f1.8 is a phenomenal lens at only $265. The Samsung bodies are always overpriced when first released (as is the NX1 body at $1499), but they tend to drop rather quickly. The NX20 was $999 when it was released, but I waited until it went as low as $385 until I bought mine.

Looks to be expensive but good ... why not? :-D

Samsung have deep pockets if they really want to do this photography thing.

I wonder if the people calling the NX1 overpriced and too expensive for them to buy are the same people that are demanding a Pentax FF, that won't be any cheaper.

This.

Samsung cameras are just like Pentax in as far as price dropping goes. Not all brands are like this - look at how much a Canon 7D (2010 model and just replaced) is going for right now! Camera sales (Compact, DSLR & MILC) are slumping all over these days, and what was last year's "Gold Award, DSLR of the Year" (K-3) is now "a bargain" in a bundle with so much stuff (grip, flash) that ostensibly the body is selling for less than the cost of the new 20MP plastic fantastic w/ disco lights.

I'm thinking an NX1 with a "speedbooster" PK-NX mount adapter (not the Samsung glassless one), might be just the ticket for some folks, including me. I don't think Samsung is going to slow down making cameras while their TV and Phone and IC divisions are raking it in... it's a point of pride for them to beat Sony on all fronts.

It would be tempting for me to get it if it were K mount, or if it could allow autofocus and auto aperture with my K mount lenses.

Quite likely. Good fast lenses are never cheap and I would say most Pentax owners have waited for their camera bodies to reach that 'under $1000' point before buying, myself included. I'll exempt myself from your group because I'm not demanding a Pentax FF.

There is an awesome collection of new cameras recently released and this new Samsung is one of the better ones of the lot. Samsung has always made a good camera. I have a 35mm P&S with a zoom lens from the film days that was an awesome camera. I have found their electronics products to be well made and reliable across the board but their legacy has always been as a "value brand", a good product that sold cheaper than the top tier brands. That is no longer true but there are many out of my generation that still associate Samsung with the cheap color TV's and microwaves from Crazy Eddies and a step below Sony and Panasonic and won't pay a top tier price. LG was very smart when they changed their name from Gold Star.

I'd even settle for auto-aperture and manual focus. But to my knowledge, the only adapters that are not just completely passive connectors are four thirds to m4/3 adapters as well as the ($400) Canon EF to m4/3 or Sony NEX smart adapters from Metabones...
