... and they are up to 10x+ more expensive. The current SD card technology works just fine, is reasonably fast, reliable, easy - and cheap.

Its the question of what is "good enough" and SD, SD HC, SD XC seem to be quite adequate.

well ofcorse when you're talking about xqd you're not dealing with SD but CF so naturally its CF vs XQD. And CF is pretty expensive itself

As far as I'm aware, only one camera on the market uses XQD cards - the Nikon D4 (and D4s). Although high capacity and fast CF cards are expensive, the XQD still costs more and now the user has to manage 2 different types of memory cards in the field. I'm doubtful that any D4/D4s users would criticize CF for being too slow as the cameras have large buffers. It just seems unnecessary to have a 2nd type of a memory card. Imho, if Nikon kept with the dual CF slots for the D4/D4s it would have been a perfect evolution of the previous generation D3s.

If the standard (SD) is going to change there have to be very compelling reasons to entertain any thoughts of going in that direction. Instead of asking why "people hate" them.....why not look for those compelling reasons?

Basically, I don't think people hate the XQD, per se, but it is expensive and there are only 2 producers of it.
Also, as far as I know, Only the D4 uses it...and there have been a few cameras released since then that do not use it.
It is looking more and more like a dead end.
