And the lens' quality seems great
I don 't think so, or else it's some kind of animatronics: its wings are moving .

On second thought, it's quite possible that an infra-red barrier was used to trigger the camera on the beam cut. At f/1.2, one still has to very thoroughly adjust focus and beam together...

Its a shot any birder would be proud of, and done with a MF 85mm f1.2 lens just makes it more impressive. Lens sample photos are rarely so special

Indeed. But why does the EXIF say: lens focal length: 400mm @ f5.6?

Good catch. PhotoME even reports the lens as being the [Sony] 70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM.

LOL! Are you saying Pentaxians are cheap?

To be fair and honest, the affordability is what once attracted me to Pentax in the first place. Or, to put it better, Pentax made the other brands look like they were ripping their customers off.

Additional sample photos from the official site Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens - 'the Dream' - Mitakon - ZY Optics (Shenyang Zhongyi Optics).

(click for big)

Sony Alpha 7R

Unknown body (no EXIF data; filenames are "First experience with Zhong Yi 85 - ##")

Another unknown body (no EXIF data)

Alpha 7R

(nice foreground bokeh; background bokeh is a bit busy / 'vibrating')

Canon EOS 5D

(medium aperture, nice rendering)

Unknown body

(there are hints of swirling bokeh in the last two pictures, may be a bit of spherical aberration)

See also, on the official site, the page comparing Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM II on Canon EOS 6D with Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 in Sony FE mount on Sony Alpha 7R:

Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens - 'the Dream' - Mitakon - ZY Optics (Shenyang Zhongyi Optics )

It's a pity the comparison is a bit distorted by (i) the difference in sensor resolution and (ii) the distinct difference in exposure and (iii) only begins at f/2.

Is it me? Or are these sample pictures very good for such a low budget ultrafast lens?

They seem exceptionally good. We'll see if that bears out in the real world.

Yeah, fringing and CA are practically non-existent, an the lens seems quite sharp with good colours. We will see how much of this is photoshop and marketing once some lens review websites do tests, and even more when user reviews show up
Keep in mind that Samyang made a pretty good 85mm f1.4 for a very low price. So it might be possible that Mitakon will deliver. Cutting costs by making the lens manual, not calibrating distance scales, and similar things can apparently bring the costs down quite a bit. The other factor is that these lenses are not made in Germany or Japan.
