Mitakon FF K-mount 85mm f1.2 rumor?!?

I almost put this one in the Pentax rumors thread...

Mitakon will launch soon a new 85mm f/1.2 A-mount Full Frame lens! | sonyalpharumors

Mitakon said it will soon launch a new Hyperprime lens for Canon, Nikon, Sony A, Pentax SLR users. They didn’t share any specs yet but this is very likely going to be a new 85mm f/1.2 Full Frame lens!
There's something really very nice about a third party lens manufacturer that reconfirms the Pentax FF plans again, with a very exotic lens type.

That would be interesting! Mitakon already makes some lenses for Pentax K, but they are fully manual (preset) and their IQ is nothing to write home about. But an f1.2 lens would have that special f1.2 quality, even if it wouldn't be very sharp. So that would be special indeed

Some time ago I ordered a Mitakon 2.0 / 85mm lens. In a test I found it was not centered properly, which resulted in noticeable different sharpness in the edges. A friend of mine had the same problem with his copy.

So I think that quality control generally is an issue with Mitakon lenses and hesitate to buy another one.
Maybe the new lenses are better?

How good or bad did Mitakon resolve those issues? That's what's most important.

An overpriced Chinese lens with a fully manual aperture diaphragm. Yeah, I'll buy that

Yeah, the main problem with the older Mitakon 85mm was that Samyang 85mm f1.4 doesn't cost much more, but has A-mode, faster aperture, and generally a pretty good build quality (though, its still not quite on the same level as some other brands AF 85mm)

The Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 ‘The Dream’ was announced today:

Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens – ‘The Dream’ - Mitakon - ZY Optics (Shenyang Zhongyi Optics)

- 11-blade aperture
- 9 elements, of which 2 made of extra-low disperson (ED) glas and 4 made of high refractive index glas, in 6 groups
- Minimum Focus Distance: 1m
- Filter thread: 77mm
- Weight: 921g
- Available in Canon EOS, Nikon F and Sony FE mounts in May 2015; versions in Pentax K and Sony A will be available later in 2015
- 799 USD.

Press release:

Shenyang China, Apr 16, 2015 – The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 is a ultra-fast portrait lens that delivers unbelievable optical performance. A maximum aperture of f/1.2 makes it extremely convenient for shooting without flash in low light conditions. Designed for the use of full frame cameras, the large aperture also provides fine control over depth of field for fascinating portrait photography. The truly circular aperture creates a shallow depth-of-field that brings attention to the subject and blurs the background, which is critical for portraits. The lens incorporates 9 elements in 6 groups with 2 pieces of Extra-low Dispersion elements & 4 pieces of High Refractive Index elements. This helps reducing aberrations and maintain excellent sharpness even at f/1.2. . Manual focus design and a click-less, silent aperture ring promote smooth handling and are especially well-suited to video applications. The lens is built of metallic enclosure with additional protective processing, which gives extra durability and aesthetic.

Pricing & Availability

Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 ‘the Dream’ will be available in May at ZY Optics authorized resellers and at the official website (http://www.zyoptics.net/). Pre-order starts from 16th Apr in our official website. The Recommended Retail price is USD 799. Free shipping & Stocks priority will be offered to those pre-ordered in our website.

Dang, I'm quite sure I'm going to get it. At that price a 85mm 1.2 is a steal. Now I have to figure out in which mount I'm going to get it, since I use both Pentax and FE.

This sounds good. Will be attractive to many Pentaxians, especially after a while when the price comes down a little more.
The MFD could be better, but 1m is still acceptable. It is a real beast, though.
Those sample photos aren't bad. Add a some thorough PP and a lens profile, and it will be quite good

Now there's something for the man who has everything. I guess if you're going to have one big huge lens, 85mm is a nice FL.
